Halzle on Nico, per Wes Rucker

Man if UT put Nico out there and he was as bad or worse than Milton behind this OL how many suicides would there be on this board? Good grief. We had a great year last year because of a good OL and three awesome offensive threats. Literally all of that is gone now and we need to rebuild. Such is life.

Zero. This is the kid’s first year….not his 6th of proving he can’t get it done.

I'm just saying. Most here have never tried to complete a pass with a 350lb monster wanting to kill you...most opinions here stem from freaking video game QBs with actual experience limited to pop warner.....he hurried the throw...ever seen a pitcher hurry a pitch...usually low...does he need to do better absolutely... But he wasn't terrible

I am more concerned about the oc play calling than miltons play.

I say what i think and Joe Milton is not a good QB.This is why Jim didn't want him at Michigan he saw Joe wasn't a good QB.He makes bad decisions and he is not accurate.I could go on.Joey thinks this dude is special why cause he has a cannon for an arm?I don't know why Milton will not run much when the pocket breaks down. He's built like Cam Newton thats all same size.Even with a crap offensive line they can be better calls to be made like QB roll outs, rpos, and ect can't the dude pass on the run? You can tell Tennesse lost a good Offensive coordinater last year. Why not play both QBs with plays that they prefer and are good at simply alternate them during the game.Plus this gets Nico game playing experence.Plus change players on the offensive line Wes Rucker had a good topic about this.It will be a long year for vol fans.
That is your opinion, which you are entitled to. The fact is, more of Milton’s passes went where they were supposed to go than did not. Which is precisely why the coaches are the coaches.

QB is a position you have to be able to get into the flow of the game, which wouldn’t happen for either QB if you’re playing a rotating 2 QB system.

The fact is, as coaches have been pointing out in press conferences, it takes all 11 guys doing what they’re supposed to do for plays to work. It’s easy to blame offensive woes on the QB, but nobody wants to look at whether or not the line is giving the receivers time to run their routes and the QB time to find them, did the RB pick up his block assignment, did the TE hold his block long enough before taking off on his route? It’s not so simple as to blame the QB. When it ain’t working, it’s on all 11 guys on the field.

The guy has been an OC for 3 games and his head coach/boss is considered to be one of the brightest offensive minds in college football. You really think Halzle is calling the shots on playing Milton and has full control of the offense at this stage of the game? He’s going to be on training wheels this whole season. It’s way too early to start questioning his decision making b/c most of the offensive decisions (especially who starts at QB) probably aren’t even his responsibility yet.

When a team believes they have a winning quarterback who will score, it uplifts the whole team. When Bru says he doesn’t really believe in the offense, that’s serious. When your quarterback starts the second half calling 2 timeouts, it looks like he doesn’t know what he’s doing. When your quarterback is laughing on the sidelines when the team is not winning, what kind of competitor is he?

Several at the game have said here that the team looked like they were just going through the motions, all the fight was on Florida’s side.

These are intangibles that show whether a team has a winning quarterback, and they can’t be ignored. It’s not the muscles, it’s the determination, the refuse to lose mentality, the never give up, the leadership that shows you whether you have a winning quarterback, because without a winning quarterback, you do not have a winning team.

75% of our problem in the UF game was offensive line, 15 % was defensive backfield, 5% was defensive line, 0-5% was QB play. My opinion, of course.
We need a QB that is so good he masks our weaknesses. Not a Qb that adds to our weaknesses. We obviously don’t have that on the bench either though.

This. Florida sold out to stop the run, bubble screens and to sack Milton because they knew the line couldn’t give him enough time to go for the deep ball. At points in the second half the line did step it up a little and you saw the Florida defensive plan start to break down, but at that point it was too late. Also, the refs helped with a little home cooking.

I think most people look at this team and say, " Neither Nico nor anyone else will be the savior of this year." If Nico gets some playing time, maybe he can be the savior of next year. Joe Milton is not going to help us be a good team this year, and he won't be here next year.

BINGO!...So many of our so called fans want him to fail so badly...Joe has done what his coaches have asked of him...He can't help if the recievers don't catch the ball or the o-line isn't blocking for him or the RB's...He hasn't been perfect but no QB is, He's played fine...I wish these people actually watched the games instead of just thinking they know what is going on...It's gotten stupid.

This makes it much worse than JG because Milton is actually a serviceable and good QB. JG was awful and had legitimate reasons for being yanked. I hate how people are comparing Milton starting to JG. No where near the same orbit as each other

Well he is not wrong..... Milton graded the highest of any player this past weekend. People really hate the guy so much that they will overlook the defense giving up a million 3rd and longs in the first half.
I don't hate Joe. I rooted for Joe but Joe is not working on a high level. He threw up an errant ball for anyone to catch. We called multiple times outs in one drive because he was so slow to react to the defense. His stats look good because all we do are screens now.

Either halzle is covering for Joe or he isn't the offensive mind we thought he was and Josh needs to move on.

If this is joe doing what the coaches have asked him to do, we’re in more trouble than we know

Stat sheet looked decent. Did seem uncertain at times, but I've heard some or most of that may have been coaches fault. I personally do not think Nico would improve our chances at this point. Even Peyton wasn't ready yet. If we drop some more, then why not play Nico!?!

no reason other than is he ready for some success.. I don't think they turn over to him unless they feel he can have some success.

even then, I'm not sure they will. Heupel loves playing older players...

They are very much the same. For as little good as JG did, his the bad was worse. That's Joe Milton too. Neither is an SEC caliber QB. At least JG was a warrior and would take a hit to try and make a play. Can't remember JG stepping out of bounds on a two point conversion instead of trying to throw the ball. Once JG was gone the offense got better. Looks like it will be the same with Milton.
