Hardest Hit

I remember around 2004, more or less, when our LB Jason Mitchell just blasted a smallish Vandy running back who was trying to bust it up the middle.

I also remember Reggie White beating his blocker and getting in the backfield so fast when LSU's Dalton Hilliard had barely gotten the hand-off. A real mismatch of physics in that collision. Was that '83?

The hardest hit we have seen around here is having Dooley as our coach the last three years!!! A real bell ringer for the fans!

If I could be Laron Landry for 10 seconds...

One of the worst calls I ever saw and they had ample opportunity to correct it...truly baffling.

Did anyone ever hear what the explanation was for the ref's ruling? I was too busy switching back and forth between games...

Ya gotta wonder who "paid-off" the refs!

Jadeveon Clowney's hit sparks South Carolina in Outback Bowl - College Football - Andy Staples - SI.com

SC coach Spurrier went crazy when
referee Jeff Maconaghy called a "first down" even
though the ball was clearly "short".

Spurrier asked a nearby official for an explanation.

Spurrier's memory of the exchange goes like this:

Spurrier: "You know the ball did not touch the first-down marker?"
Official: "I know it didn't."
Spurrier: "Well, why'd he give it to 'em?"
Official: "I don't know."

"That's what he said. We felt like he was pointing the wrong way. I asked if he meant that way," Spurrier said later, pointing in opposite directions. "He wasn't going to change his mind."

...(un-bee-lee-vable!!)

How can that be allowed to happen in this day and age of HDTV, booth reviews, etc? I could see it 15+ years ago because the ref made the call and there was no over-turning it.

For the Vols, I'd say Eric Berry on Moreno was maybe the hardest hit I've seen although #2 is any tackle by Al Wilson, ever.

For all time though, I don't think I've ever seen a better shot than the one Clowney put on that Michigan RB the other day. Holy hell. That was a Butkus/Ray Lewis hit. The only thing that could've made it better is if he had returned the fumble for a TD.

Maybe we should ask that ref who his bookie is?

Good thing it wasn't a playoff game that really "mattered"...what if it had resulted in a loss?

(Green Bay Packers/Seahawks anyone?)

SC's only recourse for justice was to
call the law..."Clowney".

1991 UT at Louisville, Earnest Fields broke Jeff Brohms fibula. Might not have been the "best hit" but the over all slaughter factor ranked it pretty high in my eyes.

And although he had moved on to the Titans, former Vol Albert Haynesworth completely destroyed Matt Shaub.

Greg Amsler came out of the back field for one of his many swing passes ran about 20 yards down the sideline when DB broke down to get in tackling stance and Amsler lowered his knocked db back 5 yards backwards and into players on the sideline. The remember able part was the the way Amsler head snapped up like bull throwing a rodeo clown. He was tackled a few yards later by a couple from side but that first hit was awesome! FYI in think it was vs Miss. St. I just remember the hit.

Didn't Morley blow up a Florida WR in the end zone... Maybe 2007ish. I'll see if I can find it.

Victor Brown on a kickoff busting the wedge. Can't remember who. Just rember watching him the whole way down the field and the entire crowd yelling "BOOM" when it happened.
I've never seen a college player hit the wedge like he did. Really.
