Has CBJ 'Sacked' Tennessee's Spring Football Tradition?

Honestly I prefer the O vs D format. I think it helps units build a buoy of chemistry. Dividing into orange and white wouldn't do that. Our ones need to learn to play together. Especially in the trenches.

Having a combination of lineman up front that will never play together like Kendrick/Jackson/Raulerson/Wiesman/Simcox would do nothing for helping that unit build chemistry.

Likewise having each first team scrimmage one another is more useful for the coaches in evaluating our talent than mixing up the teams. Especially since there's such a big drop off in the talent of our first and second defense.

Really though, IDGAF about the format of the game as long as it is useful in evaluating and improving the team for our coaches.

Personally thought it was the best spring game I have been to. Loved the one vs one matchups and presented good evaluation tool seeing first team o vs d.

If CBJ does something a certain way, Then that way becomes the ONLY way that thing should be done. And beyond discussion...

Why did CBJ screw with a Tennessee Tradition?

Under Coach Jones, we no longer have a real Orange and White Game. What we have now is an offense versus defense scrimmage...more like a glorified practice than the long-standing Spring time Tennessee Orange and White Game.

The Defense scores points? What's up with that?! It's like some sort of fantasy thing than a game between two squads or 'teams'.

Bring back the old school 'Orange' squad offense and defense, versus a 'White' squad of offensive and defensive players! Make it more like a real game.

Come on...the defense scores points for things other than a TD? Give me a break!

Anyway that's my opinion...:whistling:

I wish I could play in his spring games. It is a great atmosphere he creates. The players love it.

he's not the first Vol coach to do offense vs. defense

actually, I think fulmer did it

Not in this format. This format provides a lot of excitement. It makes the players play even harder due to points always being given. It's cool

Thank you for the laugh. Silliness brightens up a day.

I assume you are willing to sacrifice a spring "tradition" to get back to a winning tradition in the fall.

The stuff people care about.

Cue the Allen iverson practice clip

You are my favorite gator on these boards.

Nailed it.

I would say that its nontraditional to not run offense against defense. Jones' format was actually very old school.

WOW, we didn't want our BB coach so he's gone, don't like the AD hiring a new one, he will not be right. We want CBJ to get the football program in good shape, we don't like how he's doing it. Me thinks that we would ***** if they hung us with a new rope.

I agree. I prefer a traditional game... they practice all spring to play in a game. I do like the circle of life drill though

Now we have fans complaining about the format of our freaking spring game, for crying out loud. It never stops...

I watched the spring game it was entertaining. From a time management point of view it was superb. There was no delay in executing the transition from one set to another. Due to rule limitations on practice time coaches seek to maximize the benefit of the time spent. I think the game probably provided a wealth of information for the film study of individual players and player groupings. With this young group practice time and maximum reps is precious. Go Vols !!
