True. As long as we acknowledge the sequence of events. I would also add that just as people should voice their lack of acceptance and tolerance for that type of disgusting unprovoked violence, people should also clearly voice their lack of acceptance and tolerance for the "I know he's disgusting and horrible....but they all are" train of thought; because that's truly the train that's running us off the rails.

I stated that the red MAGA hat was becoming a symbol (no longer just a hat) much like the confederate flag or swastika.
You can disagree all you wish, but it's a fact.
People disagreed with the confederate flag becoming the symbol which it became, but it didn't change the reality.
I'm sure some disagreed with the way the symbolism of the swastika evolved, but it didn't change the reality.
Of course I don't find wearing a hat as equally disgusting as physical assault, no one does, that's absurd.
What I find equally disgusting is knowingly displaying a symbol that has come to represent bigotry, hatred, and racism to a critical mass of society.

Did you pass language arts when you were in school? The very last sentence, after the one you highlighted, says displaying a symbol (which the hat has now become) is disgusting. The hat can no longer be separated from the symbolism. Also, notice the use of the words a hat and the hat.

If somebody were wearing a hood, would you understand why people care? Whether or not people are right or wrong in believing this, they see MAGA hats as a symbol of racism. That's the reality, and it's based on some truths. I don't think Trump is a racist in any sort of meaningful way (maybe in harmless old man ways), but the fact of the matter is he appeals to racists and they wear the MAGA hat, so if you wear it, you are running the risk of being associated with them in many people's minds.

It's the same thing as the Confederate flag. At some point, people had to let go of it, even tho it was just a minority that viewed it as a symbol of racism.
