Hate to beat a dead horse but...

Just watching late in the game huddles it seemed that Worley had lost this team. Sadly when that happens it's almost impossible to get the respect back. If the freshman are not ready then it looks like there is no answer other than suffer through the situation we are in.

When it became clear Butch wasn't going to put in one of the freshmen yesterday, in a moment I'm not proud of, I wished the Tennessee quarterback would get injured. I should of been more specific. Sorry Jake.

The Great Freshman Hope! I don't hear much more clamoring for the last Great redshirt Freshman Hope after less than 2 Qs in Gainesville.

Too bad our stupid coach can't see what the all of us experts on VN can. Well, we can't actually see it, we just believe it. After all none of us have even been to practice!

"The Backup QB; Favorite player on a bad team" ... no truer words were ever spoken. :eek:lol:

I'll take a fr like Riley or Dobbs making stupid learning mistakes over a jr any day. At the least we would be building for the future or finding out if we need to find one by NSD.

Ohhhhh, they ARE ready. C'mon, because our upperclassman starter is not very good, that is all the proof we need. No real point in sitting in the film room, or meetings, or practice field with these kids. Our starter sucks, therefore our BACKUP is better.

Heck, even if by some improbable chance that they are not better, I'm still willing to throw a game away watching a kid (who just graduated HS a few months ago btw) get totally discombobulated by a top flite SEC D. Then for kicks, throw the 4th stringer in the next week to take on Clowney and prove to the world how overrated he is.

Just as long as Iiiiii get to see it and make the evaluation. :post-4-1090547912:

Claim down man. I ain't that guy. I was trying to make a joke I still stand behind but got no laughs on here. To your point though I most of said 50 times during the game "how bad these freshmen must be for Worley not to get pulled". I mean if one of them can't do better than Worley.......

Maybe we should look at the flip side of this. If UT can get through Worley's growing pains without losing the team chemistry, all the while putting up with the boo's raining down on him, he will be one battle hardened kid. He shows glimpses of possibility. I remember him when he signed out of HS as a McDonald's All American. He recruited for UT from the word go. So he is a VFL.

Clearly Worley's confidence was shaken. After the initial drive in the second half he could not hardly complete a pass. I really like Worley as a person but his play was really the only reason USA got back into the game. We lacked the ability to sustain drives. They made Worley beat them and he couldn't deliver in the 2nd half. Our defense bailed us out, barely. Remember we were up 31-7 in the 3rd qt. Then it seemed like our defense was always on the field. 17 unanswered points...

We are a good qb away from being a better than average team. Just got a chance to watch the South Alabama game and the consistency of Worley's inconsistency is amazing. I don't want to hear any excuses about wr's being young. The may be young but they still get wide open occasionally and he can't get the ball to them. I won't go through all his misses but he missed two wide open receivers in the first quarter and threw two picks in the end zone. This game is a blow out with average QB play. This is not meant to be a bash Worley thread but more of a we're only a qb away from being a much better team thread. The two freshman will be ready when the time is right, until then let's chill out and remember all that goes along with poor QB play. It makes it harder on all facets of the game.
IMO he misses those receivers because he's throwing to a spot on the field not an open receiver ! And that's what is being taught! Sometimes it is better to miss than give the receiver a reward for a mistake

This continues to be the worst excuse used. Honestly, if he was missing on curl routes or out rounds you might get by with this excuse every now and then. You don't throw to a spot on a drag route across the middle or on a post pattern down the middle. Our QB is , as Butch might say, a model of inconsistency. Thats the bottom line.

If a quarterback can't hit a receiver running a bad route, how did Bray ever complete a pass to Patterson?

Patterson was simply too fast. Even though he ran bad routes, he had separation and created a large throwing window. Worley is working with a much smaller window.

Most of his bad misses have been to wr's that are wide open, regardless of how slow they are. I can't understand why people continue to try and make excuses for him no matter how far fetched they might be.

Not even making excuses. In fact, I completely agree that Worley is performing very poorly. I just don't think it's a valid comparison when you bring up a guy with world class speed and quickness vs what we have right now.

Our d sucks bc it is slow and we won't win until we fix this

I agree the defense is slow, and its Dooley's fault, he specifically recruited bigger players on defense, but with the bigger players came a loss of quickness and speed.

Even so, if our offense would get first downs on a record basis, and win the time of possession stat by 2 to 1 in each game (which they haven't done yet) that would keep the defense off the field, and the offense would be controlling the football, making first downs, and scoring points. That is the formula for winning football with this team. If they start doing that they have a chance to win 3 or 4 more games this season. If they continue to let opponent win the time of possession, and keep the defense on the field, the Vols won't win another game this season. Just my two cents!

I honestly believe his misses would be even worse (if that's possible) if the wr's were faster.

Maybe. I think I remember that we were 1 dropped TD pass from Worley to Da'Rick away from beating SC a couple years back, no?

Perhaps he's not comfortable with the system or he and the receivers are not on the same page with timing at full game speed. Worley has been woefully inaccurate, but I'm honestly hoping it's not because he just sucks. If it's not because he sucks and they just need to be on the same page, then it will eventually click and we win a few more games this year. We'll see.

If we had South Alabama's QB, Matheny, we'd be in the hunt for the SEC East crown this year IMO.

That's the hope I started with but I've just come to the realization that there isn't a pot of gold at the end of Worley's rainbow. There might be a few nickels and dimes but that's pushing it.
