Having Sufficiently Gloated, Some Serious Thoughts.

Read it again. Pearl is being fired because his actions didn't hold up the honor and integrity, among other things, of the university. Take up for him if you will. His stance is goofy and naive. If you think lying about illegal contact with a recruit is the worst rule that Pearl or any other coach in basketball has broken, you are naive.

Pearl is being fired because business wise the NCAA is going to cause his future employment to do more harm than good to our basketball program. If you think we fired coaches for breaking rules, Fulmer would have lasted about 2 months.

His actions didnt hold up AND he publicly admitted it and the NCAA is going to hammer him. The university can't afford to publicly flaunt the rules, period. That leaves no question about integrity. As it stands, at least we maintain the shadow of a doubt.

Since you're constantly whining about repetition on this board, find some synonyms for naive. You've only used it 8,777,943 times today.

I agree with this. That's not what Tenacious Ds post says.

Changing the wording doesn't make it mean something different. You, obviously, feel very strongly about saying the same thing with different wording.

I will stick with hammering my point home with the exact same wording. Wording that you cannot dispute.

Naive can definitely be disputed.

Yes if you completely change the meaning of the post. Maybe he isn't naive. That post is.

If our university and the major players thought keeping Bruce would still allow us to win games and make money, he would be retained.

Hat, is Hamilton's job in any jeopardy? I don't mind him saying what he did, but the timing was just miserable. This has become a PR disaster and really makes the Athletic Dept. look incompetent. I know you said that UT has been "working the back channels" to potential coaches, but is Hamilton gonna be the one to make the hire? It just seems this would not sit well with those that matter over there.

In football, a program that is facing some NCAA penalties usually get a reduced penalty if they hire a minority. Example: Miss ST.
I wonder if this could be the case in basketball as well.
I heard that Alabama's coach is unhappy there and he may have some interest.

Being suspected of being a lying cheat is one thing. Embracing it is another.

I am as equally unsurprised that you lack the means to grasp that simple concept as I would be to see a picture of you with your real dad.

To what do you attribute Hamilton's sudden change of heart, Corky? He announced that he wanted him to remain in September - the 'AA notified him of the bump in November, his contract situation has been dormant for months - and Hammy has been adamant that he wanted to keep Pearl, throughout. So, attempt to fire the dozen or so neurons that weren't sacrificed to the Jack Daniels gods likely somewhere in your second trimester and offer what it is that you possibly imagine caused the abrupt change yesterday.

I'll help you out - Hammy is just as vile as BP and really would have kept the POS, had he been allowed to do so. And, no, he wasn't attempting to do so in order to "protect a brand" as you ignorantly suggest. Which, had you taken the time to read / watch anything about this issue in the past several months - you'd be aware of the mountainous amounts of evidence which inarguably proved that standing by Pearl was, in actuality, destroying the brand. So, that theory can be laid to rest. Which, I am certain that its the first time you've been able to say that, about anything.

Hamilton didnt want to keep him for some high-minded ideals, but for simple self-preservation, instead, as he believed that firing him would undoubtedly be his downfall, too. And it wasn't until recently that he was given the final and ultimate "No" to doing so - and it was for the exact reasons that I mentioned, and spoken by those who believe them to be as invaluable as I do - and as anyone who loves the University should similarly espouse, and seek to promote and protect.

That you fail to do the same says far more about you, and your support, than anything. No go check the one-hour drop box, and get back to me when they're processed.

Don't know who Hat wants, but UT does not need reruns of the KO.

Who gives a big rats azz WHO hat wants? What he mainly wants is to spout off his drivel to all who fall prostrate at his feet and chorus "AMEN" to his every proclamation and stroke his monumental ego. BP screwed up, has to pay the price, but hats enjoyment of the downfall of the man makes me want to shower after reading it. Bottom line, hat would rather gloat over a fallen Vol coach he hated, than have the coach survive, no matter the cost to the U of T. If he is a Vol fan, I'm a playboy bunny.....

I don’t understand fans who worship a coach so much that they wish ill on the University. I saw it with Fulmer and now with Pearl (2 coaches fired for cause).

Agreed. And these are normally the posters who believe they can decide who the true Vol fans are. Sad.

I get that he's certain we can hire a successful coach, but he's not exactly batting 1.000 on his opinions of coaches.
Posted via VolNation Mobile

So because his opinion is different than yours, he's not batting 1.000? You must think very highly of yourself to believe your opinion is truth.

His reasoning is exactly what I disagree with. I find it in poor taste.

Have you noticed the "ignore" button? If Hat bothers you that much, don't read his posts. I mostly read posts, and only post occasionally myself. I've not always agreed with Hat's sentiments, but he's always been consistent for his dislike of Pearl and the reasons why. Now Pearl has shown him to have been right all along. All the Pearl lovers threw smack at him for having the opinion that he did. If he wants to gloat a little, let him. Get thicker skin or life is really going to suck for you.

Two words for you hatvol Forget You. It always amazes me how someone who consistently posts on a fan board can also consistently poor mouth everything having to do with Men's sports at UT. I know I don't post much....but when I do it's not to talk spit about the university.

I disagree with him. He doesn't bother me. If he can celebrate on here, I can post that I don't think this is a thing to celebrate. After all, it's a message board, right?

Tail - legs.

Hat has attended far more than I - must be playing the odds.

That's not entirely stupid - and its a start.

Or our opinion on this isn't that far apart. That's a possibility as well. If you formed your own opinion, you would have these moments with hatvol as well.

Goodness. I can put you in touch with some publishers, or a therapist.

You are wrong. Things in college athletics aren't based on honor and integrity. That's not why Hamilton was told no. If you want to know the reasons for making decisions, think green. The sudden change of heart is probably nonexistent. Just because he said he was going to retain him in September doesn't mean that was the plan. If he did have a change of heart, it's a realization that the NCAA will kill any value pearl has to UT.

I'll go ahead and assume anyone who has success in college basketball is a lying cheat. Putting their actual lies in a newspaper headline doesn't convince me that they are worse than the others.

For everyone thats keeping count: I don't know my real father, my mother drank when I was pregnant, I work at a one hour photo place. All more creative than "you are dumb" bravo.

Hamiltons only job is to protect and further a brand.

In other words, let him tote the party line without challenge. He can challenge everyone. But no one should be able to engage him.

Message boards do not work that way. If he's going to post hypothetical Pollyanna b.s. about the wonderful world ahead of U.T. after this firing, then he's going to be challenged.

If you don't like it, then you know the location of the ignore button. I suggest blocking everyone except OP so you can play cheerleader without ever being annoyed with differing opinion against your hero.
