I mentioned this in another thread, so I feel ok posting again. People speaking for Tennessee's interests have contacted the representatives of at least three coaches to gauge their interest. If Tennessee gets any of the three, the program won't miss a beat.

any idea if the interest has yet to be reciprocated with any of the three?

If Hamilton is hiring I wouldn't be so sure, but I certainly hope you're right! The quicker we can get this behind us the better.
I am and always will be a Pearl supporter.:salute:
GO VOLS!

The big outcry from many fans, is that Mike Hamilton made this statement two days before the Vols play in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. They believe that Hammy sabotaged the team by making the announcement when he did. My feelings are that this was a well thought out and planned statement from Hammy.

Mike Hamilton has a brand to protect, first and foremost. Bruce Pearl has harmed the program's image and the networks have not been shy about telling the world as loud and as often as they can. Hamilton was not ready to blow up the program in preseason, as the team was about to start practice and play. However, the season has progressed and in light of the NCAA's letter of charges, a new charge against Bruce Pearl, came to light. Hammy is making it clear that Pearl's conduct was not acceptable and a fireable offense. He is also making it clear that Bruce Pearl's refusal to sign the new contract is an openly rebellious offense against the UTAD, in light of the NCAA charges and potential punishment facing the coach and school. A move to break ties with Bruce Pearl is likely to help absolve the UTAD and bring a much lighter penalty against UT in the punishment phase of the NCAA's handling of this matter.

Secondly, the statement was made, as an announcement that the back channels of communication between the UTAD and potential coaches is open. The NCAA tournament is the best place to find your best coaches. Mike Hamilton is making sure that aspiring candidates have time to think about the UT basketball job and what it offers. Coaches will not be shy to have their attorneys and agents go through the back channels ask about the UT hoops job and have UT gauge their interest in their candidates.

In hindsight, Mike Hamilton is doing what is right for UT and protecting the long term interests of the UT basketball program.

They're all three a little busy right now. Their representatives have all indicated they'll at least give UT an audience.

Which could mean or not mean anything correct? Coaches are notorious for flirting with other schools for a pay increase at current school.

Hamilton made the announcement now for three primary reasons:

1. Self-preservation, distancing himself from BP

2. Foreshadowing, to curtail whatever difficulties could arise from making a potential run in tourney

3. Entree, to deeper discussions with potential replacements

#1 is the main reason Hammy did what he did.

He also wanted to put it all on Pearl for not signing the contract UT offered him.

I agree with this. Especially number two. This shuts down all of the "what if Bruce makes it to the Final Four" talk.

I get the feeling from posts, news, and quotes that Bruce probably has a "screw UT" mindset at this point anyway.

You never really know if you've made a "home run" hire til years down the road. That said, I'll be shocked if Tennessee doesn't hire a guy who will have the program in the NCAA Tournament and competing for SEC titles annually.

who were bad and did not get the team into the tournament--and I believe they had the same facilities that Pearl has had. Oklahoma thought they hit a home run with Capel, and there are many, many examples of failed coaches, as you know. Also, the sanctions could deter coaches from coming here--and make it tough on whoever does. We'd be much better off getting off our moral high horse and sticking with Pearl, IMO.

He just said that Pearls tenure is a net gain and we will be able to sustain and build on his success.

The general opinion of his loyal followers is that Bruce has gutted our roster and is leaving us with no talent. If we had no talent, we wouldn't make the tourney for at least 3 years. Ask Kevin O'Neill.

the brand. We had no brand before Pearl, no cachet, and while the brand has been tarnished a bit, Pearl can restore the brand. It's sad to say, but nobody remembers this stuff after a while because there is so much of it in basketball and football. Pearl created a brand because he's got charisma and the national media likes him, which resulted in our getting publicity, and because he's won. It shocks me honestly that most people are willing to run Pearl out of town, because it means we will soon be back in the college basketball wilderness, talking about our NIT matchup with Towson State.

Also, a 4th reason could be that after we lose, Pearl is going to go out trying to torch everything in his path, including the university, and Hamilton knows this and wanted to get it out there that we were going to fire him anyway.

That wouldn't go well for him in the media or for future endeavors.

Yeah, the national media has been a huge supporter of Pearl since September.

The Razorbacks have a MUCH deeper tradition than anybody in the SEC, except florida recently, and we see where they have been for the last decade or longer. Or Oklahoma fans, or even bama. They had a lot of success back in the 70s or 80s, and then were bad for a long time up until this year. Look at Kentucky--they were getting shaky until they hired the grease man.

Mark Gottfried made an Elite Eight at Alabama.

Oklahoma was in the Elite Eight two seasons ago.

This is spot on and I wish more folks would understand. When Pearl is gone it's not going to be the end of the world..3. People who think Tennessee can't hire someone capable of sustaining Pearl's success and building on it are out of touch with reality. Find me a program with Tennessee's facilities and a 2.5 mil per coach that isn't winning.
