HBO's "Game of Thrones"

eh, the death of major characters is not as gloom and doom as some portray it here. the show set itself up for that kind of expectation with how it started. i was floored when they killed Ned Stark in season one. then the red wedding....etc, etc, etc...for the TV viewer, it gave you a real sense of not knowing what would happen, and with that, very excited to see what happens next. that's basically it. it's not that you want big deaths all the time....but when you have them it changes the dynamic of the show, and sets a new path. and for hte most part, that's been pretty dramatic and exciting for the viewer.

there have been a lot of big moments in this show, most have been pretty much on point with what drives the audience to watch.....

not too many other TV shows out there generating the kind of talk like this one has...so mission accomplished.

This is where I'm at. What's the most talked about things with this show? Ned Stark being killed. The Red Wedding. Both were major plot driving characters being killed off, but the story developed so much more because of that. I didn't like it solely because major characters were killed. It made the story better overall and more realistic. If I want a cliche happy ending, there's plenty of that being made.

I knew I found a show I liked when Ned was killed. Not because he was killed but because GRRM was able to tell that story and use it to make a more compelling story. Honestly I'd assumed that Ned would live and be a part of the show for a long time. But the good guy lost. Badly. Then a couple years later was the Red Wedding. Another surprise. But you were able to look back earlier in the season and see where Robb had screwed up his alliance with the Freys. And then I thought back to Tywin Lannister writing a letter at his desk while preaching to Tyrion, I think it was, that not all wars are won with swords. At that moment was he writing the letter to the Walder Frey asking him to double cross the Starks and align with the Lannisters? The smarter person won. Even though he was perceived to be the bad guy.

I gained a lot of respect for GRRM with those two events.

Guess I have to grudgingly agree with you.

Qyburn, I think. Euron is a fop, but not as bad as Cersei, of course.
yeah, i'll give you those two, but neither spark the kind of ire that Cerci does...or geoffrey did....or Walter Frey did....or Littlefinger did......

those were all deaths that made you go "hell yeah!" i think either of those to get killed, it'll be be like "yeah, that's about right"....lol.

of course, it'd be nice for whats her name from the iron islands to stick it to her uncle...that'd be cool.

true. but most, self included, would still telly ESB was better than ROTJ....lol. it was a freaking muppet show!!! lol.
If they had not included killer teddy bears ROTJ would have been awesome too. It still was great to me, but the killer koalas did drop it a notch. It sure the hell wasn't because the good guys won.

i know...and agree.....but again, my point was a great story can still be greatly entertaining, no matter who wins............................like ESB......i wsa equally entertained by infiinity war....bad ending for the good guys. equally entertained by End Game.......both great stories imo.

heck, wasn't one of the best selling comics of all time the one where Superman dies?

I agree with all that, but if SWs has ended with the Death Star blowing Endor all to hell and the Emperor cackling..everybody would hate SWs

nah. it was just a classic 3 act story....i will say this, had htey destroyed endor, all that would have meant is that there would have been more to the story. just like when ned got whacked, and robb, and ben kenobi and luke lost his hand.....just a continuation of the story....the GOT story on the other hand is ending, at least this part of it anyway.

so the good news for you is that since this part of the story is ending, i would imagine, while there might be some pain associated with who makes it....generally speaking, i'm betting most will be at least somewhat pleased with how this all gets resolved in a couple weeks.

After the discussions here and some other places my preferred outcome would be for the Iron Throne to go to ...

No one.

The Iron Throne will be destroyed when Kings Landing is destroyed.

If Dany participates willingly in the destruction it will be because Sansa convinces her it is the only way to break the wheel.

Otherwise Sansa schemes to get it done herself. I don’t think she has any desire to sit on the Iron Throne, but sees anyone sitting there as a threat to the North. And getting rid of Kings Landing is the only way to get rid of the Iron Throne.

While everyone is focused on the battle between Dany and Cersei, Sansa and Company set in motion the plan that ensure Kings Landing is destroyed no matter the outcome.

As Cersei says, in the Game of Thrones you win or you die.

So stop the game.

Ending scene shows the stream of refugees* heading to repopulate the North and other parts, which need the people after the years of war.

* Alternate ending would be the Dark Phoenix scenario where there are no refugees.

Edit to add: As the end credits roll, the music playing is “A Country Boy Can Survive”

Sand in Dorne..I can't remember all the name/place associations. I know Rivers is one, but I can't remember if it is associated with the Riverlands or not.
