HBO's "Game of Thrones"

Can UEM or eVol share with us what they wanted to happen instead? Dany as the good queen? Jon on the IT?
Not either, but I just wanted it all to make sense. It didn't have to be Jon or Dany on the throne, but Bran as king, that just leaves me confused. That's like making Merlin king instead of Arthur. I'm fine with the rest of the story and the character endings. I wish they'd have fleshed it out more, but their endings don't upset me. Hell, I'm even intrigued with where they left Arya. But Bran just doesn't make sense. The more I think about it, the more wrong it feels. I'm not sure who it should have been, I just know Bran doesn't feel right to me.

I'd be completely shocked if GRRM didn't have Bran becoming King (maybe not the exact same election method though).

For a minute or two I thought it was going to be Davos

It's as if the unsatisfactory payoff has ruined the whole journey for some. They provided us with 70 hours of riveting story and they don't owe us anything. The reason the journey was awesome is because they didn't do things simply to keep fans happy. They kept it real. If you wanna show where everything ends up with a nice bow on it, there are plenty of those.

I sincerely hope I don't see these crying ass losers in the Watchmen thread. If you swore off HBO, we don't want to hear from you again.

You are correct, they owed us nothing as fans...except a decent story line.

You can't tell me Season 8 had any kind of depth like we saw in the previous seven seasons. It was rushed, the dialog was questionable at best and the characters flat.

I'm not sure this is the capstone the series needed.

Seems there are a couple "not happy" camps.

1. No real problem with the outcome, just the rush and the loss of the depth
2. Wanted a different outcome for the characters.

I lean towards 1. but not 2. in any way.

Oh yeah and

3. Still complaining Lady Stoneheart wasn't in the show...

They started rushing a couple seasons back, I felt. It's not perfect, but it's the result of production constraints. It'd be nice to have 14 seasons, but it's not happening.

They owed us nothing, but that doesn't mean fans can't criticize and complain. People are allowed opinions. Some get a little overbearing at times in expressing their opinion, but they are allowed that opinion nonetheless.

How is it that you guys say that creators "owe us nothing"? Without us investing time and money into their creations they are nothing. I really have a polar opposite opinion of this than you guys do. It is completely alien to me. If somebody was a regular at my families restaurant, and they were used to getting a great meal, and we decided to feed them poorly prepared, undercooked slop would that have been ok?

How do you say they have no reasonable expectations or right to bitterly complain just because all the rest of the meals were good up to that point?

It's the bitterly part - even in your analogy I wouldn't bitterly complain. I'd probably give you another shot and if it still sucked I'd say "adios" and move on with my life.

There's a world of difference between critique and bitterly complaining IMHO

They had two years to write nearly eight hours worth of material. As VB pointed out, I'm not complaining about the ending (not really) but rather how flat the entire season seemed. Four of the six episodes were nothing but talk. At least in prior seasons, the talk was conspiratorial or gave background or was leading you somewhere. This season?

"Sing me a song, Pod. Do so while Tormund tells us all about his youth with the giants."

It was just flat. Two years and this was the best they could come up with?

Martin hates fans, and his whole schtick is building expectations and then subverting those fair expectations. He loves sticking it to whatever you want to call the people who have invested vast amounts of time in following this.

He is the ultimate troll.
If he’s so horrible...you’re trolling him. He wrote a story and you’re Annie Wilkesing him...

Obviously the reason Drogon obliterated the throne was because he realized that was the reason Dany was dead....the throne consumed her...and eventually got her killed by her love.....nephew....errr whatever.

The problem isn't the last hour and a half. It's literally they crammed 30 episodes to 13.
I agree,,the last couple of seasons should of still been 10 episodes. It would better explain some things and not felt so rushed. Still I really had no problem with how it ended, just how quickly they got there.

Perfect show to me was BREAKING BAD. GAME OF THRONES was a wild ride, and I have no problem with the ending. My big complaint was that we rushed to the ending-- Using a few more episodes to set up and explain would be more satisfying. The Dany ending didn't bother me in the least. Jaime stabbing the Mad King who would "Burn them All" was as much a statement from the books as "Winter is coming".. The Mad King ruled well for many years before he went completely crazy, so incest is definitely not best. If you read the back story on Aerys, seems like Dany followed the same sort of pattern.

Biggest issues are that as a fan there was 8 seasons invested.

-John Snow deserved better ending. Perhaps a king ship. Lot of build up for nothing.
- Grey Worm and John needed to finish that ****.
