That UT has the most stringent admissions ( besides Vandy) policy for athletes in the SEC and this is one reason Gruden was not interested. Alabama and Ole Miss have the lowest standards according to the report. As I have said before, until we get rid of Cheek ( FL Gator ) , our athletics will suffer. Check out our record in all of our sports programs since Cheek has been at UT and you will find it is the worst in school history. The ONLY decent program (male) we have right now is Swimming, yes Swimming!! Changes have to be made or we will continue to suffer at the bottom of the SEC in most sports.

Phillips could not get into UF, yet was admitted to UT two days later. You have incorrect information.

That's not a bad thing.

Playing sports is a privilege.
The students education should be the most important thing when they go to college. If they can't pass their classes, they shouldn't be allowed to play.

Actually this has been talked about ALOT and is a KNOWN TRUTH. Its one of the things Hart was referring to in the Dooley fired PC when he said he would be working with Cheek to get things fixed to help UT Football be competitive.

As well, it has been reported that Vandy has changed their admissions for athletes to be way more competitive

Lowering our standards is not the answer. Getting a coach who can "coach" is the answer. That's why it is called "coaching".

Buddy, I don't know where you come from but these so called students are here to win football games. Now go polish your tuba, or organize your beakers. The "student athlete" is an oxymoron. If they take advantage of the opportunity, good for them. If not, good for them. Either way sports first, scholastics second. This is a business, wake up and smell the coffee.

Vandy had a much easier schedule. With thier schedule we finish 8-4 or 7-5 at worst

Don't fool yourself. With Vandy's schedule, the only net win we would have picked up would have been Auburn. You cannot make a case that we would have beaten Ole Miss in Oxford or Northwerestern in Evanston. So if we played their schedule, at best we would have been 6-6. If they played our schedule, at worst they would have been 7-5 (net 2 losses to Bama and Miss St and 1 net win over NCST). I don't like to admit it, but they were just better, and much better coached, than we were this year. Give credit where credit is due.

I think Fulmer hurt Fulmer's recruiting. He got lazy and starting taking chances on thugs hence the fabled Fulmer Cup.

His last real recruiting class was in 2007 and ranked 5th in the nation.

And don't tell me how they were a bust. No one has a crystal ball to look into the future. If you have one who is our next coach going to be? I hope your placing bets and making yourself some money.

And furthermore If everyone knew that class was a bust it wouldn't have been ranked 5th. Also I don't blame Fulmer for their bust. He only had them for 1 year and a bad year full of drama at that. Not to mention everything going on behind the the curtains that we have no clue about. I know there was a huge tug of war for power going on.

And as far as ourt admission standards go, we found a way to get CP in so I don't think that is what is holding us up.

I'd bet you were a great athlete-student. Dumb people are just dumb. They either get lucky enough to find a long career in their sport or they end up talking about how good they could've been. There are many STUDENT-athletes out there. And they will eventually be counting on people with low self-expectations to clean their tubas and beakers, or to earn that 10% tip.

Look's like you need to go back to school from the looks of your grammar use in the title. This is just a hunch but I'm pretty sure it should be "heard" instead of "hear". Ok I'm done, now you can go on about how football is more important than an education. Idiot.

Ironic.

One word into your response and you're guilty of an error yourself. That's not the only error either.

Maybe you should stick to spelling bees, Urkel.

This is a universities football team, not the football team's university. I can't believe I'm even reading this. Notre Dame and Stanford both have "stringent" admissions, and both field top 10 teams.
There are exceptions to everything, but in general how have Dame and Stanfordndone the last 20 years compared to Alabama, LSU, Florida etc etc.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The University of Tennessee is a University first and an athletics program second. Jimmy Cheek is doing his job by trying to improve the academic standards of the University. His being the chancellor at a rival school for 30 years has nothing to do with what he does now. He is paid to represent the University of Tennessee and that is what he is trying to do. So relax, he isn't out to get us as you may think.

You understand that the university is there for academics right? I am all for athletics but school should come first. Stanford is #8 and vandy should be ranked. It can and should be done and neither should suffer.

and that would matter ...if they were members of the SEC.

You and Mr. Cheek need to understand , if the university wants to become an elite academic institution they need football. Football is the face of the university and the biggest marketing tool. A winning football team puts your university in the view of the entire country.

If football is really needed to prove how elite a schools academic program is, then that just proves how sad we have become as a society. Is football a marketing tool? Absolutely. But, it isn't the only way UT can be recognized as a premier academic institution.

Because Harvard, MIT, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, etc. are national football powerhouses.
