Hello everyone it's time once again to play everyone's favorite game show, RATE THIS CLASS!

Still stand by what I said on Wednesday when the ORIGINAL question was asked before the other commitments. Are we dropping the ball on in state recruiting? Answer is still YES.
No it's not. We missed on three guys we pushed for... Norton, Hampton, Anderson. We got everyone else we went after.

I b!tched and whined about that a while back. I talked to a hs coach in town who was visited by Pruitt to look at a player. He explained exactly what CJP was looking for in a recruit. I changed my tune. Few of those were in TN this year. Wilhoite, Knox, and even Patterson really don’t come close to fitting into what they want. He not going to go hard after a guy just to boost recruiting rankings. McBride and Simmons “fit” what he wants.
No receivers in TN fit . The two mentioned above are slow and not physical enough.
Just what I was told.
Next year is different.

Credit given to you for sticking to it, the best thing all around would be if the in state talent fit for what the coaching staff think is needed. None of us know..yet. Can you point to anyone in the state that fulfill the needs of this team that the coaches overlooked?

Easy A for what he has to work with and the last 2 seasons record. A+ if we land Wright or To’oto or both! A++ if Bogle is miraculously added. Go Vols

A bit early with another signing date around the corner, but with the early signing period, I would say an A; especially coming off a season/seasons like we had and not having an OC named. Remarkable, really....when you think about it.

Zion Logue DE, and Bill Norton DE who both went to UGA. We need help there for sure. We let a LB go to Clemson. I have a feeling we’ll watch Logue have a great career at UGA.

Some players we got in late on while others weren’t pursued. We can make excuses for any of them but it’s still disappointing when your state appears to be producing some nice players and they don’t end up in Knoxville.

Like I said, 2020 will tell the full story. We’ll see how many get pursued by this staff.

not really.

just for fun, i did it earlier on 247.

i took out henry and harris as they both might flip to UNC and FSU.
and i added Gray, Crouch and Wright, as our most likley next uncommitted prospects to come here.

then i added Chris Russell and Henry To'oto'o, both of whome are ?'s, but could both wind up here.

if that were to all happen, and it's certainly a scenario that could happen...emphasis on could...that would put us at 9th in the country with 23 commits with 2 spots left to fill.

i dont know how likely it is. but it's not as big a reach as as some think that we could wind up with a top 10 class.

as it stands, we have a top 15ish class coming off 4-8 and 5-7 with a 1st year head coach and no OC.

we dun aight.[/QUOTE
You are 100% so far. Now let's wait on the other 3. Good job

Right now the best class we have recruited since 2015 that was rated second best in the SEC. That class had a .8950 this class .8992 with six recruits still to be determined. That class was 3.53 this one is presently 3.74. If we sign five star Wright, three additional four star players and a couple of three star we end up 3.76 overall. I don't know how many more we'll sign as were way over in scholarships now.

Logue committed to UGA because he said we were too late.

We offered literally 2 days after UGA.

To say that was a fickle recruitment would be an understatement.

It's not like it was us and UGA battling it out and we "lost" in the end. Same with Norton, though we did push hard here. Of all the in state kids people claim we lost, really Norton is the one that would qualify on all fronts. We wanted that kid and didn't even get a visit.

The linebacker you reference committed to OSU, then to Clemson. We offered but never pushed. It would be more accurate to say OSU lost a lb to Clemson.

Those aren't excuses they're facts. This narrative that we're "losing" the in state recruits is just false, except for the three I've already mentioned, Norton being the main one.

Looks like lots of excuses. In the end we still missed.

We have a great class now, no doubt about it, but we lost real TN football players to elite football schools. I’d like to see less of that in the future.

No receivers in TN fit . The two mentioned above are slow and not physical enough.
Just what I was told.
Next year is different.

Not sure what he is looking for then, these kids were not rated 4* because they were slow and without football smarts. I think he just does not respect Tennessee football. afterall he didn't grow up humming rocky top, more sweet home alabama.

Excuse for those that are simply ignorant to what really happened.

I shared the actual information. If you want to call it an excuse and ignore all that, that's just on you.

Doesn't change the truth. The way you're pushing the"we lost" narrative just isn't factual. I've explained why. Take it or leave it.

I should have worded that a little different, I'm sure the coaching staff has looked at the players in Tennessee and decided SOME of them do not fit what they are looking for as a player, not a position need. It's their job on the line, do you think they would simply make a mistake and not take players from Tennessee? I believe they know more about what they are looking for more than anyone on a forum. If wrong by 2020, look at this way, you can come back and bump this thread to gloat.

your explanation makes zero sense

I didn't say there weren't some mistakes and misses. Logue was probably one that got away. They missed on Norton and the kid from MUS has been an LSU guy forever (also might play baseball)

Thanks for sharing. What did he explain that CJP is looking for in a recruit?
It's not new and innovative, but.....

BIG OL with quick feet that know how to run block............forgot......."mean and nasty"
Tall, physical WR with at least 4.6 speed (Wilhoite and Knox don't)
Guys that don't necessarily have to grow into their bodies.
Leaders and team captains!!!!
just what I was told.....don't judge the messenger

I see people are falling into the exact same trap they did with Lyle Jones. Playing time is the easiest thing in the world to sell. Playing time at a storied program in the SEC is a walk in the park. Pruitt is not some recruiting genius- OR, maybe he is. This class doesn't tell us anything, imo. Remember, the same nit wits from the recruiting forum that kept telling you to give Jones more time because he was "building a dynasty" are the same one coming out now.

I like that the biggest need IMO was O line and that was addressed, d line the 2nd biggest need not so much. A 2nd WR recruit makes no sense to me and seems we are crowded with TE's, why take another 3*? As good as Gray may be I think taking him was a luxury. Overall I think it is a good solid recruiting haul, I am probably wrong about Gray.

Class ranking doesn't matter much if the recruits are not what was needed, I think the future Oline can open holes grandma could run thru.
