Hello everyone it's time once again to play everyone's favorite game show, RATE THIS CLASS!

The list of people responsible for the absolute dumpster fire CJP walked into is long.....but not distinguished. Lyle is on that list. So is Precious, and ole Kiffy. Add in Hammy, the HOH, and Currie. And the list goes on. Lyle is not solely responsible by any means, but he is on the list.

That said, Pruitt is doing some head scratching things on the recruiting front - most glaring is the lack of effort in targeting in-state guys.

Jury is out on CJP, and will be for the next year or so as he installs his folks, graduates some players not fitting in, and moves his own guys into the lineup.

But for those who want to 'move on' and absolve Lyle of any responsibility whatsoever for this mess......good luck with that.
I am not worried about the in state recruiting, if the players won't make your team better for the system you run, why waste a scholarship just because they are from Tennessee? Pruitt is gonna build a winner, a hard nose in your face, kick the crap out of and take no prisoners playing football the way it should be played football team. Some of the winey butts on this site may not be able to deal with that or the time it takes to get us there. Premadonnas got to go! Big Man Football here to stay. Go CJP, GO VOLS,

The eighteen thus far average out to 3.72 stars so that is as good as we've done in the last few seasons.

To get into the top ten ? Averaged about 3.5 for the first 20. Tall order to average 4.3 for the remaining six. An average slightly about 3.5 is more likely. Has anyone officially from UT stated how many recruits we expect to sign for this class ?
not really.

just for fun, i did it earlier on 247.

i took out henry and harris as they both might flip to UNC and FSU.
and i added Gray, Crouch and Wright, as our most likley next uncommitted prospects to come here.

then i added Chris Russell and Henry To'oto'o, both of whome are ?'s, but could both wind up here.

if that were to all happen, and it's certainly a scenario that could happen...emphasis on could...that would put us at 9th in the country with 23 commits with 2 spots left to fill.

i dont know how likely it is. but it's not as big a reach as as some think that we could wind up with a top 10 class.

as it stands, we have a top 15ish class coming off 4-8 and 5-7 with a 1st year head coach and no OC.

we dun aight.

this is a bit over the top, but in merit, yeah...they want the best players they can get, regardless of where they're from. if you start putting emphasis on TN kids b/c they're TN kids and NOT because they're the best fit or option for the program, that's how you get mediocre teams.

we have to recruuit the region. and GA, SC, NC and AL are going to be focuspoints.

i do think they want more out of the memphis area in general. getting Gray, Carvin, Banks, Melvin McBride etc...were big in making some headway in W. TN. some of hte mid state recruiting is over rated, or at least it was for this cycle.

We will have the highest ranked class of all teams not playing in a bowl and our class will be ranked higher than 90% of all teams playing in a bowl. Not too bad I'd say.

I get your point, and largely agree.

Take this comment for the bit of snark it is. but this almost reminds me of the old saying that it still stinks to be the shiniest piece of ^&*( in the toilet! :)

We’re really dropping the ball on in state kids. We seem to be ignoring Tennessee high school kids that are signing with Clemson, Oklahoma, UGA, LSU.
I hope you're referring to the last 10 years collectively in regards to the state of the program and not Pruitt doing a poor recruiting job?

Pruitt is average or maybe a little bit above average, so far. His coaching. His recruiting. His game prep. All average+. His onsides kick ratio is the only thing above average.

I don't fault you for fawning over him. I hope your love and adoration for CJP is proved
well-placed.
I do not know how good a HC Pruitt will be because I am not there during games or practices to form an opinion. I do not get a chance to observe his interaction with players or any sports staff on a daily basis. You have no idea either how good a coach he is unless you have special privileges and follow Pruitt around all day. I'm hopeful as a fan and with his coaching pedigree he will in the long-term(5 years) bring this program to a National contender. I'm disappointed with the recruiting ranking as of today but if we can fill the remaining slots with some of the four/five stars we are targeting, I will feel much better.

Who on here has the close knowledge of CJP and Co? Yet, this board lives on opinions. I understand what you're getting at though.
I am simply judging him by what i see on the field and on the recruitment board.

Average+.

I'd have to rank it at B+ frn

Offense-
OL haul was pretty much the way you want every year. This was a Championship type OL class. Cavite- TE class was an extension of this. Very good edge blockers- Over all A+

Skill players- Maurer, Gray and Keyton add some good playmaking ability. Means is going to turn some heads. Overall B frn..

Defense
DL we added some good size! Williams and Henderson are two guys that will contribute soon. Middleton will need some adjusting even though he's JUCO. Overall C+ frn...

LB so far is Harrison...if we add Crouch and Russell than overall . Beasely could go here too because his physical nature and speed size combo overall B frn...

DB- Burrell is what you want in a CB. Fields is a great tackler and is similar to E Gordon. McCullough looks what you want at Safety! Overall A frn...

Hello Vols fans, time to chime on on how YOU would rate this class, where YOU FANS would rank this class and how many stars YOU would give each player. You never know, the next great talent scout may be lurking in the weeds.
I’d prefer to wait 3 years and see what the W/L record is. That will be the best way to rate this class.

Obviously, there was a lot of excitement in Butch's legacy class and I remember feeling great about it.

Today, I feel completely different. Call it shell shock or surprise, but Pruitt in what I would call his "first real class" has balled out and really filled out a great class. To me it feels like there was a team effort with these recruits to recruit other signees... Pruitt told us all at halftime vs Bama he needed 25 more guys so he could compete... he is well on his way.

I don’t know Pruitt’s recruiting hot board and where these kids rank vs others, but if all things are equal I would rather take in-state recruits. I find it hard to believe a player good enough for Clemson or Oklahoma can’t find a spot here.

The 2020 in-state class looks pretty solid. Let’s see how we do in our home state this go around.

As of right now....... I give it a solid A.
To have a class this solid with two horrid seasons in a row is impressive.

Kudos to the entire staff. Now on to Feb and grab a few more.

Sure, if all things are equal. There are, however, possible factors outside of doing a poor job recruiting. First, its not like Tenn is a hot bed for recruiting like neighbor Ga. What if these players are embarrassed at the program or simply dont care and want to go elsewhere. Then theres the point maybe a lot of these guys simply arent exactly what Pruitt is looking for and so he pursues others harder. Butch got us all excite about that "legacy class" and we see how that turned out. Its not a sign of poor recruiting. As long as Pruitt wins with these guys, he can go to Hawaii and get players (o wait, Saban beat us there).

Could it be that he dropped the ball? Could it be Pruitt thought he could land higher rated players out of state, whiffed on those guys while elite programs stole our talent? We’re paying for his learning on the job errors.

Pruitt missed on them because he didn’t try. Thought he could do better elsewhere but didn’t.

This is a pretty good class if you want to beat South Carolina sometimes.

Bump.

CJP has upgraded since this thread began. We were 17th overall, 7th in SEC, and 3rd in SEC east.
Currently looks like we are 12th overall, 6th in SEC, and 2nd in SEC east.
From "C" to "B" grade. Hopefully, Wright will sign and we can be B+.
Nice work, CJP. Keep it up.

I'd say B- right now. Great job landing Q. A finish in the top 10, something like 4th in SEC and I'd give him an A+.
