Just got a text with a picture of her in recovery room. Apparently she's doing ok. Poor kid and parents have had it rough.

So many emotions as a dad when I open this thread. Glad to hear Ashlee pulled through surgery. God's continued blessings!!

I'm hesitant to post pictures of someone else's child on here. I will defer to OB should he wish to post it. Hopefully this is the beginning of complete health for this baby. I know she faces another Cath procedure. I'm praying that will be the last procedure she will need.

2015 has been a tough year for the "OBs"

Just a few weeks until 2016 and a new healthy start.

Ok...so...we're good.

Ashlee's surgery was a success. The plan is to go home tomorrow on antibiotics for three weeks. Her Neuro follow up is in a couple of weeks, at which point they'll likely give the go ahead to the Cardiologists to perform the heart cath around the first week in December.

So yes, Volatil, it would be VERY nice to toast in the new year as a healthy one because....2015 sucked.

And while, yes, this will likely go down as the hardest year of our lives, it was also a year where we learned just how fortunate we are. We endured heart surgeries, brain surgeries, a 10 week stint of me only being home two nights a week, and countless doctors appointments where our hearts where on the table, waiting for bad news.

And yet...we still have our daughter and we were able to see God move in ways we never could have imagined. From people literally around the world telling us they were praying for us and Ashlee to people whom have never met us donate money to help with our bills, bring us food, send us their love...it's beyond words how much we were humbled by it and appreciated it all.

Thanks once again, folks. God bless you.

Y'all have got to be one of the strongest families ever. You faith in God and perseverance through everything is inspiring. We will continue to send prayers up for Ashlee and your family.

Boom worthy IMO

Man...my wife went to school with your sister. I actually met her a long time ago. I remember you posting something about it last year. I had no idea it was the same person.

My wife always said she was one of the kindest persons she's ever met. Looks like you two were a lot alike.

Believe me, I'm not nearly as strong as you might think. I've had some very weak moments over the last seven months, especially this latest bout but, I've never lost faith. I've been mad and I've asked why over and over, feeling simultaneously guilty, but...never lost faith.

That is what makes you strong brother.

Oh wow. Really? At Smith Co High School or Cumberland? That's a really cool connection. Thanks for your kind words. My sister was one of the most awesome people. She had it rough, pretty much her whole life. But she handled it really well. And was good to others. And she loved my kids so much. I'm afraid they're eventually gonna forget her. And they probably will. And it'll make me sad. But such is life. They still mention her in their prayers or in random conversations and such.

Anyways, glad your daughter is doing ok. Take care. Will keep praying.

Well, it's that time again, friends.

Ashlee has another, hopefully her last, heart cath in the morning. She's been doing well since our last stay, no Neuro problems whatsoever. The shunt in her brain seems to have been a success.

Now it's time to fix her aorta again. They believe she'll just be in the hospital overnight and we'll be home by Wednesday or Thursday. Hopefully and prayerfully that happens.

Prayers would be appreciated.

Thanks, VN!

Through surgery and we're ok.

Good news is, she's better now than when we came in this morning. Bad news is, we're coming back. The aorta is still depressed to the point where the balloon has essentially become a temporary fix, it just keeps tightening back up.

So...they think another open heart is the more permanent solution. They'll likely want to do it soon too, like "a couple of weeks." However, this time she won't need to be here as long, possibly home within 4-7 days post-op. So...she's better but not fixed.

While we might react differently later on today, I'm surprised at how well my wife and I are handling this. Like, we were both like..."ok, fine. Soooo...when do we come back?"

Power of prayer.

Ugh! Hang in there, OB! My heart goes out to Ashlee, you, and your family. You have provided a great example throughout all of this. You are in a much better spot now, than you were a few months ago. Chin up, sir.
