Hendon Hooker is the best Tennessee quarterback since …

Peyton. Clausen was good, but he had a ton of talent around him. He was a great game manager.
Clausen . Just for the 4th down throw alone in OT against Alabama alone . Ark OT performance. Halftime bomb at FL . Winning in Gainesville. Michigan. He was fantastic. Not as mobile but man he could drop that ball in there at money time. What a player

“Since Dobbs” appears to shortchange Hooker which i don’t mean to do but JD was a warrior himself. He was the reason ‘15 & ‘16 were good seasons. I’ll reserve my vote until the end of the season.
Dobbs would've done great things in this offense! Dont forget that he to had play for coach brick layer! He wouldve thrived in this offense!

Not really. Look at the attempts difference.

Dobbs:
2015- 344
2016- 357

Manning:
1996- 380
1997- 477

Also Dobbs rating in his JR year 2015 (127) was lower than Peyton’s 1996 (147). Now their SR ratings were closer. Dobbs was 150.6 where as Peyton’s was 147.7. Which makes zero sense. Peyton had a better completion %, more passing yards, more passing TDs, higher average yards per attempt, fewer INTs yet a lower rating than Dobbs.
what you just quoted is what I stated in my post. Dobbs had a higher Career Qbr rating. I’m not here to justify if the Qbr is valid.

Fill in the blank.

I’m going to say Casey Clausen. Loved Josh Dobbs and frankly wished my daughter had married him instead of the guy she’s with now but Hooker is an elite passer and not far behind Dobbs in running ability. Iceman is still ahead though … at least for now.

Well I’d say Dobbs was better than Clausen (overall), so if he’s better than Dobbs, he’s better than Clausen. He’s the best UT QB since Menning, though. I don’t think we’ve had anyone close to this good since Peyton. Hooker is in the Shuler, Manning, Robinson, Condredge category. Then there’s a drop.

History has been kind to that game it seems. I guess that's to be expected when you're on the winning side of it. However I seem to remember being incredibly frustrated over that game, simply because Arkansas was nowhere near as good a team as we were that year, and yet it took 5 OT's to beat them! I felt like we played a terrible game that day and walked away, happy to get the win of course but not feeling very good about the team.

TBD. Dobbs had a season with UF and UGA wins, but ended up with loss to Vandy with Sugar Bowl on the line.

I also feel that Hooker has better weapons and coaching than Dobbs did. Without Dobbs, Butch would have had like 2-3 less years as our coach. Dobbs saved Butch.

Peyton. Clausen was good, no doubt, but he also blew the winning streak against Alabama, never beat Georgia and stunk badly against them his senior year after guaranteeing a win. Michigan was a great win no doubt, but he followed them with blowout losses to Clemson and Maryland. Never All SEC, un drafted etc…

This is why I don’t like ranking QBs. Everyone has their favorites and they all had their strong points.

BS. Clausen is easily the 2nd best QB in UT history for his sheer number of big wins and stats. He didn’t “blow” the winning streak vs Bama. UGA losses were coaching not him, and he didn’t “guarantee a win” either, that’s revisionist media lies. Clemson wasn’t a blowout loss and also wasn’t his fault. Maryland was again Fulmer getting outcoached

Not meaning to get off topic but when Nico shows up o hope people remembers that he will be a freshman and Hooker is 24 years old. Nico will have a hard time living up to his hype for a couple of years. I hope he has the patience to stay and learn. So back to Hooker, if Dobbs was allowed to play here until he was 24 and played in Heupels system I think they are equals.

LOL he threw 3 picks against UGA his senior year.. You’re full of sh1t. Anyone there remembers his “I could beat UGa with one arm comment” after he missed the game his junior year. Back to your McCoullough trolling.

That’s not what he said genius. The media asked him about not playing due to his hurt hand and he said I wanted to go play even with one hurt hand and the media turned it into “I could’ve won with one hand tied behind my back”. I was there and distinctly remember the fake “controversy”. Some people are just easily duped

If we emphasize his decision making and his processing speed, he might just be the best we have EVER had. Seriously. We have had other quarterbacks with great skill sets, but I can’t recall any who consistently made such solid and correct decisions, especially at the speed at which we line up and snap. Hendon is on a different plane.
Granted, a large part of that is Heupel and his system. But you still have to have the individual who can understand and execute it consistently.

So it’s all a conspiracy like JM punch to the back of the head (your words)?

3 Ints his senior year against UGA the coaches fault?

He is like 4th or 5th all time in winning pct. What’s that mean? He won a lot of games on the road, but then lost a few at home.

Look I like Clausen, but he’s not easily the 2nd best. He’s definitely in the conversation but thats an opinion. He was a good QB, not the best and not the worst. He had a ton of talent around him in 2001, and not so much in 02-03.

Good list and I won't argue it (well, maybe - I think Tee is too high), but in fairness, there is not a lot of separation from #2-#9. Very good QBs on this list.

Dobbs gave Butch 2 extra years at Tennessee. I'm still praying for the ability to forgive him. Warrior is the right word for him. Amazing how the guy could run like a fullback at times. Remember Mose Phillips? I think he was recruited as a QB too and just refused to get tackled. Badly underrated Vol IMO.

Conspiracy? No. Media hyping a fake story and UGa and Other rednecks falling for it. Yes.
He’s not 4th or 5th in winning pct and he’s 2nd only to Peyton for winning nearly 80% of his games. Both home and away factor into that. His stats are 2nd only to Peyton and that’s with missing some games and/or playing hurt with a broken collarbone.
no one has been better since him although Ainge, Dobbs, and Bray and now Hooker have been awesome stats wise with some big wins now and then. But none as many as Casey had.
