Here comes the NCAA

Seems to me like it would be in both sides interest to reach some sort of compromise.

If you're Tennessee, how much digging do we really going on and how long do you want this dragging out?

If you're the NCAA, do you really want to stick it to an athletic dept thst just opened it's doors to you? Especially when you don't have the teeth you had 20 years ago. Think anyone else will cooperate? Pissing off one of the bigger schools in one of the two conferences that absolutely do not need you around any more when they've cooperated seems like a bad plan to me.

I think we lose a few more scholarships over the next couple of years and that's it.

Honestly, I think it's more a case of wanting to feel relevant. This committee is not the same group we worked with during the investigation portion. They likely want their day to feel "important" hence the move to flex on UT. At the end of the day, I just can't see a bowl ban after they publicly stated that they didn't want to punish kids who weren't even in school when the violations were committed. Then again, it is the NCAA with multiple cooks in the kitchen so you can never be quite sure what to expect. I think it will end up being more scholarships being lost, limitations of some kind on recruiting and fines. Don't think a bowl ban will be a part of it. If they do slap that on us, we need to take it this year and be done with it before the expanded playoffs take effect.

Yet the guilty players and coaches will go unscathed.;)

Don't you think we ought to fight it? A bowl ban? Scholarships? We ran under the limit of Scholarship players for two years, I believe. We took corrective action immediately which is in contrast to most under investigations and have cooperated and self imposed. It would and should work to our benefit? We saved time for the NCAA.
I am tired of laying down and taking the Screwing.

Yep, and if we had continued at the Fulmer pace of wins over those next 12-13 years (.745), we'd have gone 130-44, which would have put our all-time win total at 906.

They should have never fired the guy. After all he did for the University, not just the wins and championships, we would have been further ahead than where we are now!

We also avoided a 12 million dollar buyout and got rid of a terrible coach, so it's not like we got nothing out of it.

He should have been fired after the embarrassing loss to Vandy in Neyland in 2005. We would have been much further ahead than we are now.

He's the reason for the NCAA mess. He hired Pruitt. If it was up to him kevin steele would be the hc now or worse he would have kept Pruitt.

That has nothing to do with the NCAA investigation from the perspective of the punishment. So you think we should have kept him or paid the buyout. This was part of the corrective action. We got rid of him with cause. We lost nothing by doing so but it was the right thing to do and has no bearing on the NCAA except for the fact that we took corrective measures.

Fulmer wasn’t winning at that pace anymore and wasn’t going to continue doing so. He had 2 losing seasons in his last 4 (the 2 without Cutcliffe). His 2008 recruiting class was abysmal. Not even Vandy level good. The issue wasn’t firing Fulmer, it was failure to hire the right replacement. The Dooley hire after Kiffin left was crippling. Tennessee should have replaced Fulmer with Patterson and we’d have been fine.

Come on, man. Rod Wilks was in that class.🙃

The bowl ban absolutely. A fine doesn't bother me. As for losing scholarships, it depends on how many they come looking for. If it's a couple, take the hit and move on. This thing has been hanging over our heads for far too long. Time to end this....way past time actually.

You absolutely fight a bowl ban. You fight anything that has a direct impact on the current players and staff that had zero to do w/ these allegations. If the NCAA wants to turn over a new leaf and regain some respect they need to start punishing individuals that caused the issues and not punishing entire universities for the actions of a few morons.

Saving 12 million dollars by taking a certain action would go to motive in basically any court of law. A cynic would say our willingness to blow the whistle on our own and cooperate the way we have was financially motivated, and provided a justification to do something on the cheap (fire Pruitt) that we wanted to do anyway due to his poor performance as head coach. I am sure there are people at the NCAA saying just that, whether they are the majority or not though remains to be seen.
