Here comes the NCAA

I think we are looking at a bowl ban this season and loss of scholarships and that’s it
I doubt bowl ban due to ”new” policy….

New NCAA constitution could mean Tennessee football will avoid bowl ban

However, the NCAA’s new constitution pushes major college athletics toward a near future when individuals will be held more accountable than teams for infractions and postseason bans are rarely implemented as penalties.

The constitution includes amended language to “ensure to the greatest extent possible that penalties imposed for infractions do not punish programs or student-athletes innocent of the infraction(s).”

So is this "case hearing" because both sides couldn't come to an agreement on what the punishment will be? If so that doesn't sound like it would be in UT's favor...

Also all this talk about how the NCAA has no bite left seems like wishful thinking to me. Can't they still hand down punishments like they always have?

I say bring it and get it all over with.

At worst we could always do what North Carolina did about the grades for Basketball players and courses they never attended and just say were not doing anything you say about punishment as I see there transgressions being much greater than anything we are accused of and we have self punished ourselves much more than North Carolina ever did.

In all honestly the NCAA is toothless for the most part and most likely nearing the end of existence.

I agree wholeheartedly. Tell the NCAA t go pound sand and we're not complying with anything until they do something about the UNC basketball program that was out of control.

The complicating factor here is what did Fulmer know? Why was he removed and why is he still being paid by the university?

To me this is more of a telling moment for NCAA then UT.

After all UT spent investigating and cooperating, if they do anything of consequence to UT, NOT one institution moving forward will take the UT route and do a full investigation. Moving forward, institutions will not look under any rocks for additional infractions as UT did.

At most the NCAA will try to add some more scholarship bans to show they still have teeth. This is more of a power move by a two headed snake that has had it’s heads chopped off and is still slithering around.

That’s my thinking…that this is now more about the NCAA than UT. As an institution, it is standing on its last leg of credibility in college sports. It’s fighting to remain relevant, seems to me. If they try to punish us further, I say screw ‘em and either take them to court forever or just ignore them and let them try to enforce their punishments. Either way, maybe UT should be leading the charge for a new governing body for college athletics…i.e. build our own among the major conferences from the ground up.

Should have never been this way in the first place.
Punishing University Athletics when they know who the bad actors bad actors are was immoral.
No one was hurt except the kids who came after them.

The bad thing is Pruitt learned EVERYTHING he knows about recruiting from Bama. I remember just after he took the HC job. A player was arrested for possession of weed in Knoxville. His exact words were, "This could only happen in Knoxville". I knew we were going to end up in more trouble before he left.

I think UTs stance on not paying Pruitt's buyout was an indicator as to how they're going to approach these hearings. UT dealt with the biggest problems, they fired the coaching staff and Athletic Director that were responsible for the violations and self imposed some penalties. Pruitt thinks he's owed millions because he got fired. UT's position has always been he was in breach of his contract with his actions and the actions of his staff that he was directly responsible for, thus the buyout was voided. What's he going to argue? "NO they didn't fire me because I got caught cheating, they fired me because I was bad at my job!" Unless some new information comes out, this is all old news and a way for the NCAA to semi-justify its existence.

I would love to know his defense strategy. Unless he blames it solely on Fulmer, then I don't see how he couldnt be at 100% fault for cash payments.

Let Pruitt blame Fulmer as we canned Phil, too. He received a buyout clause but that was to save face so could go into the sunset as a VFL player and coach. And, it wouldn’t surprise me if Fulmer was aware of some of theShenanigans.

Just the NCAA and those who control college football way of putting the Vols back in the cellar. If the Vols had sucked last season, you wouldn't be hearing a peep out of the NCAA right now. A group with a lot of influence is afraid the Vols are legit Enough to win a championship Soon and they won't have that, because they want to control the outcomes and sPin the Narratives.

How in the hell Fulmer escaped this without any blame is beyond me.

If he knew what was going on and didnt do anything that is a huge violation.

If he was so stupid he didnt know what was going on(most likely) that is a LOIC.

The ncaa, now headed by a toothless politico who will use this position to run for President or dictator or OUR country. This has gone on for over two years, and now they want to hear from Pruitt and Ansley? What do you think they want-tips?We have given up all that we are going to and if they want more, they can start by giving the Tarheels the death penalty for five years for their deeds to start.Let this sh.t go and get on with Tennessee football and our other sports.

No, the NCAA will accept our already self imposed penalties and that's all except for maybe some probation. Coming down on us after praising our cooperation and openness would slam the door shut on any other institution cooperating with them.

this is the issue. The NCAA wants to add to the penalties. Tennessee and the NCAA have been negotiating for over a year now to resolve the differences and have failed to find a resolution. That is why UT officials are headed to Cincinnati for the hearing.

Pruitt and Ansley also have been unable to come to agreement with the NCAA which is why they are included.

Its two different issues but all will be heard at this hearing. The NCAA will then rule on all and there is no appeal process. From what I understand, if Tennessee loses at the hearing, a lawsuit will be the follow up by Tennessee with support of the SEC.

But the reason UT is in the hearing is they and the NCAA could reach a common set of penalties.

Too late for a bowl ban. Face it, the bowl games are hurting other than the playoff bowls. We bring a consistent big crowd who spends freely. We're (realistically) not going to the playoffs this year so we are going to be a big "get" for some bowl.

Any chance any of our coaches in question are/were transgenders? The NCAA would probably grant us 10 more scholarships if that was the case. Just sayin....
