I'm guessing they were interested in running the police out of there rather than specifically capturing a building.

I don't have any idea what their strategy was originally, but my buddy was reporting daily being assaulted by this crowd, which subsequently took over 6 blocks of downtown and declared that they had seceded from the USA. These people are not victims, and while many among them were probably peaceful, there are people who have taken advantage of the situation to further some radical agenda.

I'm sure someone high up in the police wised up and realized that the city might burn if they continued engaging in the same way with the mob.

I'm glad mayor Jenny has your back Luther. At some point in time one of your children or family might need protection and I feel sorry if they find themselves in Seattle if they do.

some interesting words in his comments:

behavior is "unpermitted" - presumably against the law. peaceful protest is not against the law.
"mostly" peaceful protests. acknowledges that some of this is indeed not peaceful protesting
hopes it can be resolved peacefully. acknowledges that it is not a peaceful protest since great care must be taken to resolve the situation without violence erupting.

All I've been saying from the beginning is that the right wing media is intentionally blowing it WAY OUT OF PROPORTION, and many of you willingly jump in head first.

Why, the mayor ought to charge a 500% tariff on utilities and importation of food and fuel. Stop picking up the garbage. Allow NO ONE in or out without a passport just like is required now to simply go to Canada or Mexico. Anyone that crosses the border should be captured and sent back immediately. When the try to get out confiscate any state or federal identification. Let them be their own country.
