Hey alleged Christians ....

2 Timothy 4:2
preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

He's not judging! He's just reproving, rebuking and exhorting you, you long-haired hippie freak! :p

#1 on the sides, actually.

Have you ever thought it was interesting that he wanted to make sure they had weapons available, simply so that he could forbid their use. That way, it couldn't be said that they didn't have the capacity to defend themselves, it was by deliberate choice that they did not.

Hard to see Jesus being cool with us marching into the Middle East like we've been doing for a few decades.

Pretty sure if you put that question in the context of His times... you might come up with a surprising answer.

It is doubtful He would have take a position.

During His life, the Romans were continuing to expand their borders by brutally invading and occupying countries. Seditionists in Palestine were executed by the thousands... crucified by the main roads leading into Jerusalem to send a message.

Paul was a Roman citizen with distinct knowledge of Roman politics. He didn't condemn the Roman gov't being in conquest mode either.

In contrast to the way we wage war, the Romans used terror to subdue newly invaded areas. They outlawed or subordinated foreign religions and levied large taxes to pay for their military expenses. Judaism was an exception because they realized they would have to kill all of them and face constant resistance.

In short, the Romans were much less noble in their intents than the US was/is... yet the founders of Christianity and its doctrines did not see fit to address the issue.

Our culture as a whole has bastardized christianity...

I agree. I have a copy of "The Fundamentals". Interesting that 100 years ago "fundamentalists" across the spectrum of orthodox protestantism were already fighting against the corruption of NT Christianity.

That movement unfortunately was partially co-opted by people concerned with hem lines and sounds made by records played backwards.

A purist NT fundamentalist is simply someone who believes the Bible and its message of hope and redemption are fully true.... and behave that way.

If that passage is the most abused... "fundamentalist" is the most abused term as applied to Christianity.

The most abused scripture passage of our day. Always taken out of context by those wishing to excuse immoral behavior.

Wow, just wow. It's not "excusing immoral behavior" when I accuse someone of disobeying the Bible by cherry picking MY sins and holding me to their standards.

Humor me, what's the proper/christ-like/biblical/theological context?

You mean like only judge if your house is in order?

OE - I know you are being sarcastic but I struggle myself with what is a Christian's appropriate response to evil. In cases where the downtrodden are being persecuted (killed, tortured) shouldn't we stand up and do everything we can to protect them? And if the answer to that is yes, then is the same true for people who are simply being exploited?
