Seriously people get their panties in a wad everytime something changes and ALWAYS it comes back to tradition. We wore all orange and then lost and all you heard was never wear them again. Last time I checked we are not winning in "traditional" uniforms so are we burning those also? Come on and get a grip. These are the times and the one thing that will never change is this is TENNESSEE. Just win no matter the color of the uniforms. End of story. Things do change and will continue to! BEAT VANDY!

I have been a Vol fan since the late 80s and care about tradition as much as the next sane fan, but some of you creep me out with your views and how u cant adjust.

Put the banjos down.

All you have to do is look at all the NFL throw back jerseys. Unis do change.

Its just creepy for some reason the way certain posters here speak of tradition.

"Put the banjos down"? That's a clown statement bro....

Whenever change is instituted there will always be those who don't like it. Some people take comfort in things that don't change and when things do change they get upset. I don't see anything wrong with that. Or maybe I just missed the creepy posts.

Wait a second. "The one thing that will never change is this is TENNESSEE"? If you change the colors, the unis, and other traditions because "these are the times" how will you know it's Tennessee? The colors, the traditions, the heritage.... that's what makes people identify Tennessee and the great institution it is. Listen to the recruits, current and former players talk about the VolWalk, Rockytop, Neyland Stadium, running through the T, etc.... they matter.

I'm not in any way against the gray unis (other than wearing them vs the right rival teams like Bama, Fla, GA), but for you guys who knee jerk at guys who have a love for the time honored things that make UT UT, relax a little bit and ease up on the derogatory insults. It's just an opinion....and a valid one.... on a message board.

I am pretty sure we had blue unis at one point too.

Black and blue were the most common color for clothing for many centuries. It was the easiest and most cost effective dye.

In other news, the university chose the color orange to represent it's self. It's a unique color and we should be proud of it.

I'm thinking that we could do better in recruiting if we started to sub in tigers for the volunteers also. That seems to be a popular mascot and we need to keep up with the times!

A lot of people harping on tradition have forgotten that we have fallen away from our biggest one: WINNING. If these jerseys help us get back to that point, then bring them on. I personally think theyre awesome looking, and I still love the orange jerseys(and the orange pants, for that matter). Why does it matter what the vols wear? They will always be our Vols.

There isn't a UT group here. It's all the way in Tampa. As far as Siesta Key, the Beach Club will have the games on as will the Daiquiri Deck and Gilligans (across the street). Where are you staying on Siesta?

Condo's across the street from Captain Curt's, that is were we usually watch games.

There is a debate on why we are orange. Either after flowers on a hill that arent orange or a mysterious order that is in europe...but we already changed our mascot....the volunteer holding a gun was dropped a few decades ago.

You don't need to alter tradition to gain recruits. Just win. What has Bama been doing the past few years? Winning and they get the top recruits because of it. And by the way, Bama has no alternate jersey. The point I'm trying to make is that we don't have to keep up with the Jones' and bypass tradition to get a recruiting advantage. Furthermore, there's not too much you can do with our Orange so why bother?

Good news! I've put down my banjo and burned my overalls, I'm leaning left now and will be getting my first sex change operation next week. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

The creepiest thing by far is how much the majority of posters are on Butch Jones' jock. I mean, the guy could probably change the mascot to a pastry and most of you guys would praise him and insult anyone who wasn't on board.

I like the new jerseys. I think they're a good idea and I think they look cool. I don't mind wearing them multiple times a year. I don't like the idea of treating the Vanderbilt game like the Super Bowl, but if that's what it takes to get this group of underachievers motivated, fine.

But the dumbest thing right now is all the insults Butch lovers are flinging at anyone with even the slightest reservations on the matter.

Agreed, but you might as well back him, cause he isn't going anywhere for a while. Besides even if we wanted to let him go, we would have to take out a loan to buy out his contract.....were broke as a institution I mean.

But agree with your point. He's making some huge changes without having done much here yet, I hope he can get this team motivated anyway possible to get us to a bowl game, I don't care if they run out to lil wayne and the POTS plays drake at halftime, JUST WIN THE NEXT TWO GAMES!!!!

People around here dgaf about winning or losing as long as the team dresses in the right color scheme.

I think people just want to voice their opinion on this so that it doesn't go too far. Many feel like it was billed as a once a year, at most, change.

I have to completely disagree with you on this. People keep throwing in the "just win." The reality is that we are nothing without our tradition. Specifically the last 6 years or so. Your making the point for other rival fans that Tennessee is nothing now. The reality is that we are only relevant at all BECAUSE of our tradition and that's one of
the few reasons why we will win again.[/
QUOTE]

We werent always Orange...

Just saying.

We have been relevant since the late 1920s. We started wearing orange in 1922. The worst part of this is the seniors would rather wear gray than orange. Bad precedent being set.

The worst precedent is fans thinking that the uniform is for them.

Tradition is way overrated, way overused and is typically what people resort to when confronted with the unfamiliar. Christmas is a tradition. Whether or not a uniform is orange enough is just a stupid thing people worry about.
