Holding on to Tradition

The seniors have earned, win or lose, to choose to play in the Grey. CBJ is a demanding players coach who is not callus towards what things motivate our seniors playing there last game at Neyland. Myself, being settled after years, would rather just see orange and white. At the same time, we are not Oregon. I would be heart broken to see our traditions get disregarded. Orange and white's is Tennessee!

You don't need to alter tradition to gain recruits. Just win. What has Bama been doing the past few years? Winning and they get the top recruits because of it. And by the way, Bama has no alternate jersey. The point I'm trying to make is that we don't have to keep up with the Jones' and bypass tradition to get a recruiting advantage. Furthermore, there's not too much you can do with our Orange so why bother?

who gives a sh!t about bama? :loco:

The worst precedent is fans thinking that the uniform is for them.

Tradition is way overrated, way overused and is typically what people resort to when confronted with the unfamiliar. Christmas is a tradition. Whether or not a uniform is orange enough is just a stupid thing people worry about.

Tradition is only brought up when your present situation sucks! FACT!

Condo's across the street from Captain Curt's, that is were we usually watch games.

IIRC that's an Ohio State bar. There is a sports bar just off the island and South on Tamiami. I wouldn't risk driving!

Captaing Curt's is money for Karaoke on Sat night. Pretty fun. If I wind up on the key I'll make sure we touch base and have a beverage or 2!

Grey is going to be a tradition now. Get over it. Move on. Find something else to b**ch about! Boom!

Don't you find it odd there is more complaining about the unis than getting hammered by Oregon, UF, Mizzou, Bama, and Auburn.

It's all about priorities. As we used to say when I played a lot of golf:

Dress in the 60's- Wear and play with the latest gear
Talk in the 70's- Talk about how good you were at one time.
Play in the 80's- Truth

Sounds like UT football at the moment.

I've seen fewer posts complaining about the uniforms than I have threads with people complaining about people complaining about the uniforms.

Why the double standard? If you can complain about something (them complaining), then why can't they?

Just saying.

I have been a Vol fan since the late 80s and care about tradition as much as the next sane fan, but some of you creep me out with your views and how u cant adjust.

Put the banjos down.

All you have to do is look at all the NFL throw back jerseys. Unis do change.

Its just creepy for some reason the way certain posters here speak of tradition.

Your right some things do change and usually for the better.

But Banjos always sound great!

One of these days rocky top will be replaced with a cool rap song, book it.

"Are those the faint but beautiful strains of '...ain't worried bout nothin..' I hear floating on the wind? Let's go, the Vols are playing!"

I love the tradition of the Vols and it makes us who we are. Other wise we would be just any other school.

College football is all about pageantry and tradition (and winning of course).

The NFL isn't.

The Pride, The Vol walk, the Vol Navy, The Power T, The Salute to The Hill, The Orange Jerseys (AKA the most beautiful thing in the world) make Tennessee what it is.

We are where we are because of our past.
I'm looking forward to our RiseBACK to the Top but I don't want us to forget our identity on the way there.

P.S. I'm pro-gray jersey once a year.

Amen brother! I want the Tennessee Walking Horse back on the sideline!

I think people just want to voice their opinion on this so that it doesn't go too far. Many feel like it was billed as a once a year, at most, change.

I have to completely disagree with you on this. People keep throwing in the "just win." The reality is that we are nothing without our tradition. Specifically the last 6 years or so. Your making the point for other rival fans that Tennessee is nothing now. The reality is that we are only relevant at all BECAUSE of our tradition and that's one of
the few reasons why we will win again.[/

Go Vols or Jayhawks...wait, wtf?

This is exactly what I was thinking while reading this thread. Is it really a cool tradition when we are just copying what others have done in the past and what's the "cool" at the moment thing??? OKST beat us to the gray/orange combo so no this isn't a "tradition" to ride. Let's change our names to the Tigers (like another mentioned) cause 2 other schools at the top of the league have that same mascot.

Good starts to traditions are fresh and different not the same as what others do. This is like having a new immigrant telling an American to keep up with the times and speak Spanish, Manderian, Japenese, Russian or whatever the new "power country of the future" is for today per CNN.

Seriously 2 non-O and W uni games in a season is a grasping for straws move by CBJ imo. I thought he was the embraced UT traditionally guy.

But hey we have a awesome new tradition that should make all Vol fans super proud...The Beat VANDY Bonfire!!!! YEAH!!! SMH :tearsinbeer:

I play banjo and I can play Rocky Top. I posted a video of it to this forum at the start of the season. I will never put it down and I will never stop playing that good ol' Rocky Top. It was the first song I asked my teacher to teach me.
