Holding on to Tradition

There isn't a UT group here. It's all the way in Tampa. As far as Siesta Key, the Beach Club will have the games on as will the Daiquiri Deck and Gilligans (across the street). Where are you staying on Siesta?

SKOB is my personal favorite place in Siesta Key. I moved to Lakewood Ranch a few months ago and I've been trying to find a place to watch the games. Just been streaming on my computer at home so far.

We are the "Volunteer State" and the University of Tennessee Volunteers because of a 200-year-old tradition of answering the call to arms for our country. This designation was first earned during the War of 1812 when, at the request of "President James Madison, Gen. Andrew Jackson, who later became President himself, mustered 1,500 from his home state to fight at the Battle of New Orleans. The name became even more prominent in the Mexican War when Gov. Aaron V. Brown issued a call for 2,800 men to battle Santa Ana and some 30,000 Tennesseans volunteered. Tennessee's color guard still wears dragoon uniforms of that era at all athletic events" (UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics - Fans).

If you don't believe that such devotion, dedication and sacrifice by Tennesseans who have gone before us is worthy of honor and commemoration by designating our state and our state university's athletic teams "Volunteers," I truly pity you.

U totally need to get ur sarcasm meter calibrated man. Seri...

No, I don't. My statement was simply in opposition to characterization of "Volunteers" as outdated. I am quite aware that incessant sarcasm is the almost exclusive literary weapon of choice for many contributors to the Football Forum. I refuse to conform to that stylistic convention.
