If we could shoot the ball Holly would be a great coach. Simmons was really bad and Taber was worse in the game Saturday. If they make forty percent of the total shots they took Stanford is in trouble. I think Holly is gonna have to let the players that are the best shooters take most of the shots. Right now that would be Burdick, Kamiko, and Bashaara.
I admit that our defense was ugly as well in this last game.
Does Holly have any control over who takes the shots? I don't see much in the way of plays being set up for the good shooters. Just take a look at the assist totals as one clue.

I'm also tired of hearing the excuse of our players being young. Stanford has a younger team than us with 6 Fr, 5 Sophs, and only 1 Senior. And last year when we had 5 seniors we didn't do so well.

We like to delude ourselves. I couldn't believe all the fans complaining about the officiating during the Stanford game, saying we never get the calls in our own house. What a crock. Home court advantage is one of our strongest assets. If you look at it objectively, the refs always favor us at home.

Sad you mean the low life male with no moral values at all.

I think you misunderstand.

You send out a millionaire, well hung, super powerful borderline model male, and most women will forget what "love" means. Men will do the same thing because it is how we are biologically designed. If you don't like that, then there's really nothing to say. Opinions don't change facts or evolution. Morals have nothing to do with it.

I think the ball should work through Graves and she should get a touch on every possession just like Candace used to. She should be aware of double teams and kick out to players for jump shots. The wild shots that Simmons takes a lot of times are just lost possessions. I think all players should take open shots but we should work through inside players and they should be aware that when the defense collapses on them there are open players on the perimeter. They don't seem to realize that now and Simmons never seen a shot she didn't like. Possessions are valuable and we wasted about 20 in the Stanford game.

To add the players we have on this team would rank about third in overall talent in the entire nation. Stanford had only two top ten players on their team but their other players played within their system. If we had a system some players would not be jacking up shots that they did Saturday.

Actually we could say this is Holly's 2nd year as she did much of the coaching last year. I give her another year and hopefully she'll be able to get a top 10 list of prospects for 2014. If the Lady Vols make the "sweet 16" or "elite 8" that's good, especially the latter!

So you are saying that you will go after any married woman that you can get.

You are obviously new to following the Lady Vols. We have a LONG history of getting jobbed at home. It was especially bad when Candace was here. We were just so dominant that it didn't matter a whole hell of a lot back then.

This team's problem is that they psyched themselves out against Stanford. They could play Baylor ten times in a row and never beat them but we match up very well with Stanford. We had lots of open looks and didn't knock them down. The system can get you open looks but the players have to knock them down. And the players who took those shots normally hit a higher percentage. That is just basketball.

The only way that relates to coaching is in not getting the players in the right frame of mind but that is difficult for a coach to do. Either they have the drive and desire to win or they don't. The last batch of players that came through here feared missing a shot more than they wanted to make one. This team had the same problem in the last two games. They played nervous out of the gate and it took them too long to get into the flow.

We will see if they grow out of it. But objectively I think they have played better this year than most people who have been following them for years thought they would play. You get a lot of drive by posts by people who don't really know anything about the team or women's basketball. And the bottom could still fall out. But so far there is more on the plus side of the ledger than the minus.

If you expect them to dominate the way they used to then you haven't been paying attention.

Yes, I'm new to LVol basketball. Only following since one home court ago -Stokley. I will agree we have a long history of complaining about getting jobbed at home. To say we have no home court advantage is just not being honest. I'm sure Rutgers would agree with me (remember the time-keeping incident?). LVol fans were complaining about the Stanford game officiating, but Stanford fans were saying the opposite. I believe, and research supports the notion that every team has a home court advantage.

I agree psychology plays a part in how well a team does, and a large part of managing that is on the coaches shoulders. It's up to the coach to instill the desire to win. Holly just seems to shrug her shoulders and doesn't know how to motivate. We have a roster full of All Americans, McDonald's, USA Basketball, etc., that can't perform to the expected level. The fault for this lies with the coaches. Either they don't know how to motivate, or they can't attract, or don't go after the true top players.Coaches should view the rating of others with a grain of salt and make their own decisions. (Personally, I'm worried about how good #1 ranked Mercedes Russell actually is).

I agree that the team is playing better than most fans thought they would. That's probably because the recent grads were top rated players, and they didn't perform, so fans are carrying that fear over to the current roster of top players. But based on their resumes, the current players are under performing.

I don't expect the team to dominate the way they use to. Too much competition, too many good coaches, lessening support from management, other teams getting great new facilities, no Pat. It looks like Uconn will be strong for at least the next 3 years. I think Pat's decision not to play them was a bad one. It gives us the reputation of being afraid. It will be interesting to see how UNC does with Diamond and her pals. There are a half dozen other coaches that will always be challenging for the top spots, and many others who are almost there.

I was hoping this board would be more realistic, unlike The Summitt, where they wear the emporor's new clothes.

I expect to beat anybody we play at home. Especially teams that have no more or less talent than we do. The energy level we brought in the Stanford game was pitiful. We were already on Christmas break. It was an important game for this team and they didn't give their best effort IMO. Now we have to fight from behind a few players need to have more energy and play harder and some need to rethink their shot selection. I'm looking for us to be a really solid team by the end of the season. I think we can go far in the NCAA Tourney if we decide were gonna defend and play as a team every minute of every game.

So you are saying that you will go after any married woman that you can get.

I'm saying that any man or woman WILL cheat on their significant other given that they posses the necessary requirements, whether that be money, power, fame, good looks, sex appeal, or whether it just be that the other in your life cheated first or things are going wrong.

Throw out Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, Mila Kunis, whoever, and most males would cheat, especially provided no risk of being caught.

Throw out Channing Tatum, Zac Effron, Justin Beiber, etc, and the same applies to women. It doesn't mean I'd steal a man's wife, but I would most certainly like to be world famous/regarded as good looking enough/rich enough to someday.

Hopefully, HW can get things under control in the next couple of years, if not, there will probably be a lot of calls for N. Caldwell and an AD who might be impatient.

The best program deserves the best coach, or near to the best as possible.

Sadly, Hart was more than willing to go on the cheap with Holly...and with the blessing of Pat, he was off the hook.

that little boy is exactly like holly. he's no pat summitt. four or five years as asst. doesn't compare with holly's years on the bench. he has to prove he's worthy.

Caldwell isn't exactly doing a great job at LSU. Last time I looked they were in the middle of the league and if they don't win this next game will be near the bottom. Were still in a virtual tie for first with only two seniors on the team. We lost huge on the road yesterday but so has everybody else in the SEC. You sometimes have a game where no one can throw it in the ocean. The main concern yesterday is why we didn't defend better. We were picked to finish fifth in the SEC and all these are Pat's players so I'll reserve judgement for a few more games. Let us not forget how many losses we had four years ago when Pat had a similar team.

I know it's just one game, but how the hell did we lose to Mizzou? This is unacceptable.
That little thing we all have at certain times in our lives...over confidence, not preparing properly for an opponent we blew out last time we played them. The maturity level of these players is part of the problem, also, I think they are not very well disciplined!

Sorry but you are wrong. She needs a little time. They will be much better next year.

Holly DID deserve a chance.
But it is NOT in her DNA to be Coach at this level.
She exhibited that when she kept turning down Head Coach opportunities to stay in the comfort and glow of Coach Pat.
She will last around 1 more year!!

The biggest problem has been injuries and the fact that the Lady Vols have a history of not filling all their scholarships. Just a few years ago, Pat had the same problem with not having enough players. I have never understood by one would not use a scholarship and get caught with a shortage of players. One can learn a lot from history.

The Lady Wildcats have a pretty good coach. UK has been as good as any SEC women's team the past 2-3 years. However, I believe that Holly has a very good staff and she will be a very successful coach at Tennessee.
