Hopson

Without actually seeing you play, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this statement shows a lack of understanding of the quality of athlete taking the court for SEC basketball. Please remember that, whether he has met your expectations or not, this kid was one of the best highschool basketball players in America last year. His first step is quicker than anyone else's on the court, he can jump over the gym, he can shoot it, and he is 6'6" tall. If you could beat him, you wouldn't be posting "what if's" on a message board.

No, he should be playing the 2 guard. He is naturally a 2 guard. I don't know what "point forward" is supposed to mean, but he isn't one.

Please tell me you are joking.

I'll go ahead and get this on the record. Hospon is a mentally weak player who will never, ever remotely live up to the ridiculous hype that surrounded his arrival. At best, he's going to be a 14 point a game guy on one end and a liabilty on the other.

You mean that in the off-season when he "adds some bulk" he's not going to get better at basketball?

What does bulk have to do with getting better at basketball?

I can think of a lot of rail thin guys that had HOF careers.

i'm still trying to figure out how to convey sarcasm over the internet.

i was taking a shot at the people (including pearl) that seem to think when hopson grows up physically he's just magically going to be a much better basketball player.

Gotcha.

Agreed. Tough thing to do because the minute you say something someone doesn't agree with they jump to rip your ass. I have done it myself. We need a sarcasm emoticon.

I'm with you on that. Once a person posts enough sometimes you can tell they're being sarcastic.

it seems right now the only way to know someone is using sarcasm is through familiarity with said poster. ANYWAYS back to Hopson!

JZ beat me to it!!

I'm still wondering what hppened to all the people who ripped me for saying Bobby Maze was not the answer at point guard and Scotty Hopson had the same chance of entering the '09 NBA Draft as Quinn Cannington. Posted via VolNation Mobile
I'll give you that hat but just for arguments sake and with the West situation, where would they be w/o Maze and no PG this season? I actually thought he played decent defense last night during the comeback run.

Why would you compare him to any of those? Each of those guys are far more physically ready for the college game than Hopson - doesn't take a genius to figure out that Evans and co. look ripped and look like full grown men (save Singleton). But even Singleton is more ready physically and his game fits better. Scotty is a scrawny kid who is supposed to be taking it to the basket and get fouled. Doesn't have the frame and strength to do it consistently and effectively right now. Plus he's making mental errors.

Worst analysis ever. The number of scrawny kids who were also really good basketball players is too numerous to even begin to start a list.

Really? Because Curry has a completely different game than Scotty.

Curry is rail thin but is a complete player... and a SENIOR. His game also doesn't rely as much on getting it into the paint as much as Scotty's.

Evans, who has a similar game to Scotty, is bulked up and look what he can do when driving to the basket. With some players strength and types of games - strength really is a big deal. Chris Johnson at LSU is an athletic kid who can jump out of the gym - similar to Tyrus Thomas and Vernardo at MSU. Both skinny big guys - but its the type of game they're playing. You didn't see CJ banging last night - he mostly avoided contact and used jump hooks or got uncontested dunks - is also a great shot blocker. He has a different game than Chism or Brian Williams who will use their frame to score on you.

Scotty is best suited for dribble penetration from his quick first step. He's not a pure shooter where strength or physique would be pretty irrelevant offensively. Scotty needs a stronger upper body to take the blows in the lane and become a better finisher, even when fouled. So before you go and try to act like douche, think before posting... I wasn't basing my argument solely on the fact that scrawny players are limited early on and can't succeed - can scrawny kids do well - yes, but it mostly hinges on the type of game and way they play.

Can't agree more. He just doesn't have the right attitude to play at a high level in college. Yes, he can physically get better at basketball, but if his attitude about the game doesn't change, it won't matter.

You can't teach or coach toughness.....I still say bruce needs kevin nash to visit this bunch though!

I hope you are wrong, and that maturity can help him, buut that is going to be up to Scotty. Athletically, he is very gifted. His mentality is not strong, and I hope a large part of that has to do with youth, but I don't know him well enough to make a judgement.
