Hopson

Lol - because you know you're pulling that out of your butt and are twisting interviews or let the media twist your thoughts.

It's simply not true and either you or the interview you saw was twisted and taken out of context. I can pick which words I want to read as well.

There's a difference in someone wanting to be 1 and done and thinking their 1 and done quality. Scotty is a really reserved and quiet kid and he wouldn't say that.

like i said, you're clearly more informed than I am -- you're right and i'm wrong. Hell, you've got more posts than me!:clapping:

Yeah, that's exactly what I said. I'm still waiting for a link or quote of him saying he's 1 and done material.

Until further notice, Hopson is a major bust. He couldn't play in the ABA right now.

Why? Because the stars listed by his name on scout.com?

He sure is during a lot more than Woolridge... who was a 4-star. How about Tatum? He was a 4-star on the verge of a 5-star? And Cam had an extra year. Negedu was right on the edge as well.

So they're only able to be busts if they're 5-stars on a recruiting website? Calling someone a bust in their freshman year is laughable - its not his fault, or mine, or anyone else that you choose to over hype him and expect more than he could bring because you saw sparkling stars.

Granted Hopson will be fine in time. But compare him to the other five star freshmen. Sammuels, Evans, Aminu, Monroe, Willie Warren............Chris Singlton.

I have held my tongue on Hopson because it's a huge adjustment from playing high school basketball to college but it's time Pearl realized this kid isn't ready and doesn't deserve his minutes. At this point I don't care about potential this kid can't stay focused for more then two minutes at a time and is a liability. How many times has he left his feet and been totally clueless what he was going to do with the ball ? Being that Hopson doesn't want the ball at crunch time, doesn't play defense and is a turnover machine why was he even in the game (LSU) when it got under two minutes? I didn't expect Hopson to come in as a freshman and be a great player but I would expect him to play smart and stay focused.

Your backup option is just as bad. So do you suggest go to the walkon?

hasnt anyone brought up the 1 on 3 he was leading? instead of giving it up for a dunk, he takes it himself, gets stripped, vols get nothing out of the trip. for me that was the worst.

Why would you compare him to any of those? Each of those guys are far more physically ready for the college game than Hopson - doesn't take a genius to figure out that Evans and co. look ripped and look like full grown men (save Singleton). But even Singleton is more ready physically and his game fits better. Scotty is a scrawny kid who is supposed to be taking it to the basket and get fouled. Doesn't have the frame and strength to do it consistently and effectively right now. Plus he's making mental errors.

That play was pathetic. We would have gone up by four.

There are plenty of ways to work the lineup without using a walk on. It's not like Hopson is playing forty minutes a game.

Ok then who? Woolridge? Who will get beat off the dribble playing against someone smaller and quicker? How about more minutes for Prince? Lol. Tabb? Our SG position then isn't really a threat to score, at all - and its not much of a threat as it is.

Realistically - unless Tyler can play the 3 - which he really can't - it's the best lineup. And if Tyler plays the 3 - that means more minutes... for JP... Prince.

I agree something needs to be done - but its not just Hopson - if Cameron Tatum was the 5-star and Hopson was the 4-star prep guy who was red shirted we'd hear even more complaining about Tatum. Sometimes it is what it is. And this is all we have to work with and you have to stick it out since we're already deep into the season - a little late to bench the starters for walkons to prove a point.

Bruce just has to use what he has and somehow get them to to play smarter and with more intensity. And to not play such a lazy half court offense.

Prince right now is a better option. He does get circles run around him on defense and is a better passer. So what he can't shoot, neither can hopson.

Hopson is about a 100x better shooter than Prince.

And saying Prince can run circles around anyone on defense is ridiculous.

I said he doesn't get clowned on defense like hopson. The few points hopson's gets he more than gives back in turnovers and bonehead mistakes. Not to mention he looks like he's going about half speed out there, unless he's just slow.

Hopson looked utterly petrified on the floor the last two minutes. Bruce is doing him no favors running him out there in situations he obviously can't handle.

That play alone should have gotten him a seat on the bench for being selfish. He's an enigma. I hate to see talent wasted but that's what's happening so far. He doesn't really know what his strengths are yet. His shot is not a strength. He needs to go to the basket until the defender backs off of him. Then he can take the three. He's just got to stop playing for Sportscenter and play for the Vols.

Most minutes and starters:
Maze/Tabb
Tatum/Hopson
Negedu/Prince
Tyler/Woolredge
Chism/Williams

Scotty was timid down the stretch last night, but before that I thought he looked like he made some strides. He used the dribble to get into the lane; he was active, if not always good, on defense. He got to the line and even hit the boards a bit. He was much more aggressive overall than I have seen him be, and that is positive, even if it didn't always work out.

He had a few "wanna get away" moments...most have been mentioned other than almost shooting it over the backboard on a free throw...then makes an adjusment and leaves it short of everything.

That's one of the problems with that high arching shot he has, when you miss it's going to be ugly. Still doesn't account for leaving it short on the second throw though. He is just not dealing with the pressure very well. Hopefully that will come in time, the sooner the better for this team.

Most kids struggle as freshmen--including the blue chips. Some make the transition effortlessly, but they are the exception not the rule. The big key is that Hopson develops and improves, along with Tatum, because if they don't the Vols could be really bad next year.

Basically you just described JP Prince as well. No difference. Except that JP sags a lot on defense and starts running the court as soon as the other play shoots it to try to get an easy, lazy layup accounting for a few more ppg.... and if we don't manage to get the rebound someone is wide open because of it.
