Hopson

That play alone should have gotten him a seat on the bench for being selfish. He's an enigma. I hate to see talent wasted but that's what's happening so far. He doesn't really know what his strengths are yet. His shot is not a strength. He needs to go to the basket until the defender backs off of him. Then he can take the three. He's just got to stop playing for Sportscenter and play for the Vols.

I don't think that was selfishness at all. I don't think he realized the guy was that close to him and he thought he was going to get an easy bucket. Was just a mental error rather than "selfishness".

No - sorry he didn't. The only people that claimed he was 1 and done were misinformed local sports writers who never had seen him play but saw his scout/rivals ranking and figured if he was ranked higher than Michael Beasley was in his class - then surely he'd be 1 and done too.

I did see a quote from his mom saying they would look into him being a one and done.

There is no question that, beginning with his Jr. season in HS, Scotty, his mother, and his AAU coach thought that he was going to play one year in college, then leap to the NBA.

So his mother was his AAU coach?

There's a humongous difference between a parent telling their child they can be whatever they want to be and a mother telling ESPN her son is taking a hard look at staying one year in college ball.

And there is a huge difference in someone's mom telling ESPN that he is wanting to get to the NBA asap (what player doesn't want to get to the NBA?) than the player actually saying I am going to stay one year in college and then leave. Would he have liked to stay one year? Sure - that means he had an awesome year - but did he ever say he was 1 and done material? No - even his mom didn't directly say that.

He had a few "wanna get away" moments...most have been mentioned other than almost shooting it over the backboard on a free throw...then makes an adjusment and leaves it short of everything.

That would've been hilarious if he didn't play for UT...

They may not have said that to ESPN; I don't know, as I did not see the interview in question. However, Scotty, his mother, and his AAU coach (who, as far as I know, is not his mother,) certainly expected him to be "one and done."

They're probably two of his biggest fans. I don't really find it surprising or have a problem with the fact they had unrealistic expectations for the guy.

I don't either, but they did have them. And honestly, he is going to have the opportunity to do some very big things. It ain't gonna happen this year, though.

If Scotty is a one and done maybe I should try out, because right now I think I could beat Scotty.
I have got a solution... If Scotty could teach JP his high arching shot and JP could teach Scotty his line drive shot then I believe we would have two great shooters.

Without actually seeing you play, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this statement shows a lack of understanding of the quality of athlete taking the court for SEC basketball. Please remember that, whether he has met your expectations or not, this kid was one of the best highschool basketball players in America last year. His first step is quicker than anyone else's on the court, he can jump over the gym, he can shoot it, and he is 6'6" tall. If you could beat him, you wouldn't be posting "what if's" on a message board.

he should be playing behind Tyler at the point forward spot but the only problem we have is that Pearl promised him a starting job and we dont have any other "two" guards

No, he should be playing the 2 guard. He is naturally a 2 guard. I don't know what "point forward" is supposed to mean, but he isn't one.

It was a freaking joke. Hell I was just trying to say Scotty is not very good and if you think Scotty is playing good then its obvious you have not been watching him play this year.

I'm still wondering what hppened to all the people who ripped me for saying Bobby Maze was not the answer at point guard and Scotty Hopson had the same chance of entering the '09 NBA Draft as Quinn Cannington. Posted via VolNation Mobile
