How can he not be fired or suspended?

It's even tougher than that. If Pearl is fired, Peterson has to coach wearing one of Jerry Green's suits and Wade Houston's mini-fro.

Are soap operas mandatory viewing in the coaches office as well?

Count me in the first option of true fan. This program is FAR bigger than Bruce Pearl. We could get a pretty good coach if he were to be canned.

We all know that coach K at Duke would love to come here. Williams is having to be restrained from grabbing a plane to come to Knoxville. Matta and Self would have to be held on campus under armed guards to keep them from coming to Knoxville.

Clearly, there are only 4 good coaches in the country.

His success the only thing keeping the incompetent egghead in the AD's chair employed. Hamilton can't fire him without walking out behind him.

I dont share your opinion about Pearl, but if he does get fired, this would be the only good thing that comes out of it.

The funny thing is one of the guys he mentioned was passed over in favor of Jerry Green.

Weirdest damn thing. Back then, the program was unrealized potential at best, and good coaches were available. Now that it has been proven that you can win here, no good coach would want to come here. I'm amazed by the logic.

Don't you get it? Pearl is the only coach in america that could win here. If he leaves, we should just drop basketball. He is the program.

Perhaps the most troubling aspect of this whole scenario is that the NCAA, and especially their new honcho, is out to nail somebody in a malign attempt to justify their “get tough” policy. The question is why they decided to focus on Tennessee when there are so many other “offenders” they could have gone after. Who knows who’s driving their campaign against Bruce Pearl. At least some of this enforcement zeal could be due to the back door machinations of Bruce’s ugliest adversaries, such as John Calipari, Billy Donovan, and/or Kevin Stallings – the coaches who most hate losing to the Vols. We all know that they simply can’t stand the fact that Tennessee has risen from the ashes to prominence in the SEC. They see Tennessee as a barrier to their own success. They’d do or say anything to get rid of their most hated rival in the SEC coaching ranks. The NCAA is the most corrupt, biased, and immoral organization since the Al Capone mob. I’d hate to see UT basketball brought down by such a band of idiots. That’s one of the reasons I will forever support Bruce at any cost.

Man, what a funny post. If you could add a few more laughing emoticons, it would make it even better.

People keep saying UT basketball is greater than Pearl but I disagree. Furthermore, I also disagree with saying Pearl is greater than UT basketball. But what I do believe is that Pearl IS UT basketball. We we're abysmal before Pearl and we'll return to the cellar of the SEC if he leaves. At what seems to be the dark age of UT athletics, this would put an even greater damper on our athletic program.

I didn't know ESPN controlled the Heisman Trust or the Downtown Athletic Club.

That is crazy.
I don't know how old you are but I can tell you this. Peyton was the front runner all that season. Towards the end of the season ESPN started their own personal Woodson for Heisman campaign and started all their bias bending by downing Manning night after night and piling all the accolades on Woodson. They did everything they could to disparage Manning at every turn. I for one sat through every night of Sporstcenter listening to them doing everything they could to influence the voting and I for one believe they helped turn the vote to Woodson. You can be naive about it all you want but it's not crazy. What say you LWS?

I'd like to see someone explain this. It ought to be entertaining.

What's there to explain?
You can argue a lack of character (even though I believe deep down pearls a good guy) but you can't argue success

-Pearl has taken UT to 3 out of its 6 sweet sixteens

-Pearl has been to the tournament every year he's been here, which has never been done by any UT coach. Prior to Pearl we'd only made 13 appearances

-Pearl took UT to their first elite 8 and got UT there first ever #1 ranking

The only thing he hasn't done is won an SEC championship.

Look.....I understand everyone's frustrated, but we can't do better than the current state of UT basketball or Pearl. Period.

Bolded section: Wrong. Bruce has made 5 straight. Devoe made 5 straight as well.

Green had us ranked 4th and he was a pathetic coach. And Devoe also won the SEC tourney.

Just so it's clear, I think Pearl is better than DeVoe and Green. But, what their successes show is that people other than Pearl can be very successful here.

you realize that your argument names three successful coaches in the history of our fine program right?
