How good is Cooper Flagg?

C'mon, Larry Bird took a bunch of plumbers at Indiana State to an undefeated season and the Championship game vs Magic and MI State which they lost by less than 10 points. Bird had a coach who was barely over .500 wins in his career. He had nothing.

Flagg is playing at Duke with a more than decent set of teammates.

An honorable mention: Steph Curry at Davidson had little support and some teams would run a triangle and 2, double teaming Curry the whole game. In 2008, they knocked off Georgetown and Wisconsin before running into Kansas and losing by 2 points.

Flagg is good, very good, but he's no Larry Bird as a college player.
Danny Manning at Kansas says hold my beer... 1988 Danny and the Miracles..

I think Duke stomps Houston. They won’t miss as many shots as we did in the first half. We should have won. But that’s basketball and life as they say.

They are very, very good and beat us by 19. It should have been a better game, but "we should have won" is crazy talk. They can beat Duke, but Duke's size will probably be too much for them, an advantage we didn't have.

Whoever rebounds well will have an advantage and if Duke can be strong with the ball they should win. This will be the most physical game Duke will play all season no matter the outcome.

It just doesn't seem like they're going to get better shots than you guys, or beat you on the glass. They'll beat you if you're sloppy with the ball and/or the shooting results are weird.

I think if Duke comes out in the first 10 minutes and handles the pressure that will be thrown at them they will be ok. I’m not worried about Duke’s defense and I’m not too concerned about rebounding, but just handling the early on ball traps off the pick and roll and things that get them off schedule. I’m confident Scheyer will be as well prepared as anyone can be in college basketball, bc he’s an excellent offensive coach and play caller. It will be interesting to see how this game is officiated. Hopefully the referees don’t call it like the Arizona game, where their influence completely ruined the flow of the game.

He’s good. Very good. Has all the skills necessary. Unfortunately instead of spending 3 or 4 years in college to develop, he’ll play 1. Still think he’ll be a great pro

Big stunner. Flagg named AP Player of the Year. 41 votes to Broome’s 20. Nobody else got a vote.

I saw Christian Laettner up close and in person, after his freshman year. He came to Lipscomb basketball camp and even did a 1 on 1 vs Lipscomb’s Darren Henry.
I think Flagg is the best 1 and done since Kentucky’s Davis.
He is better than Laettner in almost every way except his mentality (Laettner was a beast when he turned it on).

He will need to get better defensively but I expect him to be an NBA All Star from the start.

Cooper Flagg is the most complete basket player I’ve ever seen at Duke as a freshman. He is this weird blend of Grant Hill and Christian Laettner. He leads Duke in every major statistical category. The way he gets his teammates involved, while at the same time having the ability to takeover the game reminds me of Grant Hill. His competitiveness reminds me of Laettner .
Laettner is/was a different level than a lot of guys, but this was my take when this thread originally started. Flagg is incredibly competitive and I think if we lived in a world where guys stayed 3-4 years we would see him being almost the ultra competitive guy that Laettner was .

Yes, I just think that is his weakness as a NBA player. He is a 6’9 3guard or stretch4 and he went up against smaller players most of the year.

He should be the number 1 pick and well deserved.

Yeah, I think part of his draft value is in his D. He's a tweener and that's not a bad thing anymore. There is a different word they use in the modern NBA for a tweener, and it's "switchable."

Flagg isn't going to stop Anthony Davis or Jayson Tatum from scoring. He'll fight, but nobody stops anybody in the NBA. But he checks the two other big boxes in today's NBA...will opposing guards hunt you? The answer is no. Do you play good help D and have the IQ to play complicated schemes? The answer is yes.

Yeah. I guess it’s just where he is slotted to play. I actually really like his game. He looks like he is in slow motion but he is so fundamentally sound that he makes it look easy at times.
