Oh, I'm quite aware that it was an opinion. I was disagreeing with your opinion that we don't even have a chance to beat Alabama.
And for the record, I'm uncomfortable with you thinking about my panties.
You don't think UT has a chance at all to beat Bama? That's the dumbest thing I've read in awhile. Unless of course you don't watch much football because upsets happen every weekend in the fall, especially when the favorite is on the road. Of course Bama will be heavily favored and they likely get the W but disagreeing that UT has a chance in that game isn't smart.
Alright, I literally laughed out loud at that. :lolabove:
Annnnyway....for all you peeps who think it's "stupid" to think that we don't have much of a shot against Bama, I offer up the last two years as evidence. And yes, I'm well aware of those team's imperfections.
I reserve the right to change my mind after...hmmm...let's see....the third game this year.
Before then, I'd like to see this team beat a decent SEC team, i.e. Florida, UGA, or SCjr--or at least show enough grit to make me believe they can compete for 4 quarters against SEC Elite talent.
This is not pessimism, this is realism, and until I see something from this team--and this coach--that's my opinion. **not a shot at Dooley, just how I see it**
so if the Vols don't win by 21 points,is it a bad start to the season ?
Not busting your chops too bad here. It's all in fun. I actually agree to some degree with much in the above post. However, the above post differs greatly from your original assertion: i.e. that you disagree "a lot" with the idea that we have a chance against Bama.
Accepting the greatest possibility for defeat, and negating any chance of victory, are two entirely different things.
All good brotha...
And as for differing greatly, I would disagree, though admittedly, I might have exaggerated when I said I disagree "a lot." I have a not so good feeling about playing Bama and it pains me to say it, too--believe me, I get no thrill from admitting that--but for now there are THE elite team in the SEC and show now signs of slowing down.
The only thing I've seen improve on our end over the last two years is recruiting, pass protection, and depth...none of which have translated to more wins, unfortunately. I think that this is the year that FINALLY happens but I'm having A LOT (no exaggeration) of difficulty seeing past 8 wins, and NC State is no cream puff.
The problem is UF, UGA, Miss State, or Mizzou are games that can go either way IMO.
Right now, UF is the litmus test for me. If we lose that one I lose every bit of whats left of the confidence I have in DD...and that's not much, I'm sad to say.
The biggest thing that gives me hope with DD is the LSU game in 2010. People point to the gaff at the end that cost us and, believe me, its warranted criticism, but I look at it as if we took a team full of freshman and nearly beat one of the best team's in the nation that day--when, on paper, we had no shot.
That's been a long time. I'm still hanging on, by a thread....but I need to see something this season that gives me confidence to believe that we can compete with the big boys in the SEC.
Long, long ago in a city far, far away there lived a little team called the Miami Hurricanes. They finished their season with only 1 loss to the hated Gators and had beaten the future NC resoundingly. The day of their big game they spent hours and hours wondering just how many points they were going to beat Tennessee by just knowing that Oklahoma was going to beat Penn St. They were hoping for an Oklahoma victory but not by much because they were going to be NC's at the end of the day. We aren't worried about UT they said, we have our eyes on a bigger prize....
Well, we all know how that one turned out. If we win by 1 or we win by 21, it's a victory that this team badly needs. Let's end the 3rd quarter up and then try and tack some on.
This story is absolutely true and no names have been changed. I was in S. Florida at the time. That Sunday afternoon was absolutely sickening. However, that Monday was the sweetest that I have known. SugarVOLS!!!!

He should be their best running back. Having him back, would put a lot of weapons in their backfield. However, the biggest question mark on offense for them is their OL
