How good will NC State be?

If bray locates amerson, and throws to one of the two excellent receivers we have that he's not covering, we win the game. If he forces some in his direction, a turnover could cost us the game. We win pulling away I think, but if we let them hang around, or someone pulls an Eric Gordon like he did at georgia, and it is left on palardys feet we should worry

NC State can't cover everyone.

We will win by at minimum three scores. The ACC is so crappy, looking at anything any of their players has done in the past is pointless.

Frankly, there are some many variables on both teams a debate would be interesting. No way of knowing what our defense will be like along with our rushing game. Basically, they have a QB and a secondary according to the one fan that I spoke with.

Hoping for a 2006 cal opener but we have flat out stunk versus the acc the last decade.

Haven't all of those been in bowl games?

I think that just has something to do with us not being prepared for the postseason...

See this is what I am talking about.....the ACC may not be the SEC, but y'all really think y'all are gonna win in blowout fashion and if you don't you think we are sooooo bad that if we win....your season is over....

I attended NCSU for a year and a half and got to celebrate Jimmy V's NC on Hillsboro St. So believe me... I have nothing but love for the Pack.

However, you are unlikely to see even one WR on any other team you play as good as Hunter and Rogers... and Patterson might be as good as they are. If the recruiting svc ratings mean anything (and they do mean something and especially avg'd over time) then the Vols simply have more talent.

I am truly not trying to offend you but if Dooley can coach (and that's what most of us are still wondering about) then this game should go about like UT v Cincy last year except UT's D should be better vs NCSU's O. If this game is close or the Pack wins then it is a strong indicator that UT needs a new coach.

I would be inclined to agree with you except it was with three different coaches.

Probably more along the lines of acc 2 or 3 versus sec 4 or 5 in the chick and acc 4 or 5 versus sec lucky to make a bowl team in the music city.

I liked that they are ranked because if we win it will make are team better on paper and in the top 25 voters eyes!

What an ignorant statement

He said the same thing about ky. We're not overlooking you. Our team is needing a win right now to boost our confidence. When that happens we could contend for the east. We know nc state is no pushover but you must concede we do have an edge in talent and finally some experience and some small measure of depth. We. Could fumble it a few times and lose sure but I think a 6 to 7 point favorite is pretty close. Our ol is finally juniors now, save for tiny and one senior. This is where well take you in the end IMO

Talent wise I think Tennessee has the edge. I'll give the coaching edge to NC State

I'm sure you would. Just automatically. Just a kneejerk reaction.

O'Brien had 3 consecutive losing seasons at NCSU before going 9-4 and 8-5 in the last two. So basically it took this "better" coach 3 losing seasons before beginning to do anything at all in the ACC, right? Think about it...

I'm not saying Dooley is better. I am saying that I don't know how you can make that particular judgment before Dooley really has a chance to prove himself one way or the other.

Sammy Watkins may be better, but like u said I looked at the last 4 yrs. Recruiting classes for nc state and if O'brein hasn't developed them a lot I think we should win.
Wolf thanks for coming around I enjoy hearing from opposing fans

This will all hinge on NCST's D-line. If they can't pressure Bray into mistakes...they will lose.

Look at their respective careers. O'Brien had a winning record at his previous job, including 8 straight bowl appearances. O'Brien is the better coach by a mile

Not many people in this thread have mentioned how their weak linebacking corp could contribute to the run game. If our O line can get backs into the second level or outside with a little room..... Surprisingly we could have a big running day.

... We could probably freeze their best player outside with a solid run performance too.... Match Da'rick up w/him. I don't care how well he can cover Da'rick can punish him in run blocking.

No. Not even close. Dr and jh will have better nfl careers by far.

Actually, it's very close. Just because Watkins isn't a Vol doesn't mean you should discount him. Dude is a baller. His freshman season was much better than either JH or DR's freshman campaigns. And predicting NFL careers isn't very easy.

I think they will be a competitive team and we will have to play a very good game to win. I think our offense will be OK, but with a new defense, We may give up a few points. I think they will finish in the top third of the ACC.

If Bray has proven anything, its that you can't look at his scrimmage and practice highlights (or lowlights) and apply it to a real game.

In games, Bray's decision making, while not perfect, has typically been very good.

Help me out here, I am trying to remember all the good teams (i.e. teams with a winning record) that UT has beaten with Bray as the starting QB. For some reason my head has gone blank, someone help me out here since my memory is so bad.:banghead2:

You're right because Bray was surrounded by a bunch of first rounders. You can't correlate his abilities to the number of wins and losses vs MUCH stronger competition when the majority of the team has been down talent wise.
