How good will NC State be?

Hey all,

Wolfpack fan coming in peace, thought I would give you a little synopisis of our team, we will be VERY thin at the linebacker position, our d-line, which did lose some should be actually even better than last year, b/c what most people do not know we had a lot of injuries on our d-line through the season last year so these guys have alot of playing time under their belt. Watch our for a d-end named Art Norman, this guy was a beast last year as a freshman. Our secondary will be the best in the ACC next year in my opinion, everyone back there has starting experience and of course I think everyone has heard of Davis Amerson. As far as offense goes, Of course we have Mike Glennon at QB, who has turned out to be batter than I thought he would. Coach TOB has stated this is the best o-line he has had here at State. The running back situation will be just fine, we have James Washington who is small but very quick, and our workhorse from two years ago(sat out last year with injury) should be back, his name is Mustafa Greene. As far as recievers go, Tobias Palmer is our slot reciever and one of leading recievers back from last year. We may have lost two starting recievers, but only one of those guys got thrown to alot. We have alot of young recievers but some have a lot of playing from last year. We have one guy, Hakeem Flowers who was very highly touted coming out of high school, but Coach TOB decided to redshirt him last year. At TE, of course we lost George Bryan, but Mario Carter caught just as many passes last year as his backup. If you guys have any questions, just feel free to ask. Thanks for letting me on your board. Looking forward to the game! GO PACK!

Is your fan base optimistic that you will win this game?

I think they will the same basic level of Cini's last year team...and that isn't a knock.

Pretty Good, but with several flaws. Somewhere in the top 35 to top 40.

You're going to need everybody you can get back there!

I was talking with one of my buddies who is attending NC State right now, and he told me that it would be a historic collapse if NC STATE lost this game... I had to stop the conversation right there because I couldn't talk to someone that was that disillusioned.

Most of the fanbase is confident, they're a southern fanbase, but not as die hard. They're confident in their team, and know where their strong and weak suits are, it just seems to me they don't know a lick about us as a team. Of course, in their defense, we haven't really given them much to compare with other than the UC game.

I think we're lucky we're getting this team at the beginning of the year rather than end, as TOB's teams usually take over in about october, right about the UNC game. I believe, in this slot last year, they came about 1 posession from losing to LIBERTY.

I just don't see how we lose. we don't have a position on the team that lost someone who didn't have a significant backup (other than Malik's position), and we're starting to get depth back, which should help us in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

I think our strengths match up with state's strengths well. Our Passing game vs. their secondary will be an interesting matchup, but where we win is our passing game vs their linebackers. They don't have a returning starter, and i think 1 or 2 returning starters in the whole front 7.

Their offense really isn't that great, the defense dominated them in the scrimmage and as I said, the front 7 of that defense is super suspect.

I really like our chances, but if it comes down to Special teams, I think that goes NC State's way.

GBO!!!

Welcome to the board. :hi:

Living here in Charlotte, I actually pull for you guys. I had a bunch of friends that were at State when Rivers played that I visited often. And I can't stand UNC or Duke or their fans.

Post often and good luck this year, starting with the 2nd game of the season of course.

NC State's defense is better than UC's was last year

I'm not so sure about that with their lb situation.. Dt would be a wash, they got whitehead who could play tho.. Nc state has a serious talent edge at db for sure

Tenmanjonez tell your friend to look at the Vegas spread when it's released, then he will get an idea that it won't be a major collapse (or whatever he said) if NC State loses this game. Tennessee has a tremendous amount to play for (ending the Georgia Dome and ACC losing streak, increasing Dooley's job security, recruiting in North Carolina, and making up for the Kentucky debacle, amidst many other things).

NC State has a lot of experience returning in their secondary and their secondary starters are better on paper and due to past success, but they drop off significantly in talent once they get to their 2nd team, especially at CB. I think Tennessee's secondary will be the most improved position next year. We have a lot of talented 4 star players back there that will be better coached this year. Also, NC State is not returning star playmakers at WR, our secondary will have a much easier challenge than the WR's we are throwing at NC State's secondary.

Our starting LB's are much better than NC State's, LB will be their weakness. Our LB's are like NC State's DB's though, because once we get past the first team, our depth is bad.

I would rather play NC State the first game of the year instead of the last. They usally struggle at the beginning of their season but finish strong.

I would not say this would be considered a large collapse if we lose this game. We are all very confident, as are most fans before the season starts, I think our fanbase knows we start REAL slow, but we are hoping since you guys have such a big name, that we will not come out flat. I think in years past it has been kind of hard to get up for the Liberty's of the world. I think some of you are underestimating our D-Line, I completely agree with you on our LB situation. I for one totally did not see Terrell Manning going to the NFL, and the year suspension of DJ Green. They would have put us having two starters from last year, and since all that happened we know have none. I hope its a good game, and I think we have SOME respect from you guys, but I hope we at least prove some of the doubters wrong by either winning(which is what I want:)) or making it a close game and showing we are not just some pushover....

NC State may not roll over, but if Tennessee is worth a damn, the Vols should win pretty easily.

See this is what I am talking about.....the ACC may not be the SEC, but y'all really think y'all are gonna win in blowout fashion and if you don't you think we are sooooo bad that if we win....your season is over....

No offense, but it's the truth. Tennessee plays at least 4 or 5 teams who are better than NC State.

I have a hard time overlooking the Cincy game from last year, too. It's not like it was a competitive loss.

I think the NC State game is the most important game this season. If we lose that game the season could turn into a dumpster fire.

The fact that UT came out as favorites by about a TD told me a lot. Vegas generally knows what's up...that's why they do so well. After the last game UT played, being favored by a TD speaks volumes to me. I don't think NC State is going to be a pushover at all. But I have to agree with the Guru here, if UT loses this one, it does not bode well for the rest of the season.

We've always started slow too, especially on the road, this is what bothers me about NC state. UCLA still gives me nightmares.

Although I completely agree that you guys are going to be much tougher than a lot of people here are giving you credit for, I don't think the intent of the "our season will be awful if we can't beat them" is supposed to be a slap.

We generally just expect Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi State, Missouri, and Florida to be at least on par with you guys, or close to it. If we lose to you we could be looking at 5-7 losses again, which I think will result in tears and possibly blood being shed.

Yeah, on paper we should beat them, and I would bet that we will find a way to do it ... but ...

... I too remember early games against UCLA, Auburn, Cal etc., when I expected we would have their number, but we let them slip away, and those Vol teams were not as green as this one, I would say.

Let me hasten to add that we are not as young as last year, but we still don't have a lot of proven upper-classmen leaders who have steadied bad situations and pulled them out.

It wouldn't be bad for us if this game is close and we have to fight and scratch for a victory, as long as we can pull it out and not come up on the short end yet again.

I found them annoying at the time, but I miss the Montana trolls from last year. They made the off season pass a little quicker.

GBO!!![/QUO Jeez - you mean Palardy right ? I do wonder if he would be a better kicker indoors -- but I doubt it.

I think State's offense will really struggle, replacing 3/4 of their top WR's and their nasty kickoff/punt returner. Their D is going to have to keep them in this game, especially the secondary.

I don't think this will be a blowout, but I think Tennessee's talent, depth and urge to win this game will put them over the top. Tennessee by 7-10 in a close one.

NC State fans have a crap football history. For them not to respect a top 10 historical program like Tennessee is laughable. They will understand when they see us in Atlanta and realize it's a stepup in intensity and a better program from playing South Carolina, who is the only SEC team they have played recently. It's like us not respecting their top 25 basketball program, which use to be top 10-15.

We will have to have over 100 rushing yards to win this. NCST will be ready for us. Dont know why some people think the game is already decided
