How is this Jones fault?

I was there...stayed to the bitter end...

I will say, that you can't leave the game in the hands of the refs. Our red zone offense was atrocious with horrible play calling, and even worse execution. It almost looked like pee wee football when Dobbs tried to scramble...

That being said, we could have been 20 to 7 with no worries had the offense not made so many errors.

Two weeks to prepare for this game, and we come out with probably the worst offensive gameplan all season. I'm just at a loss as to what it is going to take for Tennessee to ever truly get back on the right track.

Just said the same thing on FB... Most conservative play calling in years..

So... you want him to start throwing it down the field when your running game is working and your QB is playing bad?

Did no one learn anything from bad Worley = conservative play calling to good Worley = playbook opening up and more points?

Yeah, that's a bad play. However they only scored 14 points and 7 in the last seconds. I say the defnese did their job, don't you?

They gain nearly 200 yards with an inept QB and few penalties. How did the OL not play well?

Vandy fumbled the ball on the 4 yard line and once more in the red zone. Their kicker, who is a very good kicker, missed a kick that was uncharacteristic of him. So knowing that they gave the ball up on the 4, once more in the red zone and then missed an easy FG, they took potentially 17 points off of their total score leaving them with 14 rather than 31. So do you still believe anybody on that field played well for us?

OC - offensive play calling sucked.....sorry this is week 13 +/-...by now, with the skill players....I think even I could have a few, and maybe not many, canned routes that could have gotten several yards. But, no....we run east-west, etc., and sideline routes, etc., and the results are what they are. OC stunk up the field....OL did too.

Staff had the pucker factor dialed up too high. No way to recover from that.

YOUR QB CAN'T COMPLETE A PASS PEOPLE. STOP BLAMING PLAYCALLING.

My gosh I've never been more worked up.

Make all the excuses you want if it makes you feel better. The fact is, we had a bye week, at home, playing for our bowl lives. And VANDY came into our house, committed turnover after turnover, and still beat us.
Don't believe your lying eyes if you don't want to, but the history books tell the tale-this is a historically bad football program. Welcome to the new UT.

You said something other than "If u can't see what great progress this program is making then I can't help you. I bleed orange and I hold my head up high after tonight's game. Vandy is a great program and we just came up a little short.

It's a great moral victory to come so close to beating Vandy.

If you'd have told me we'd have them down at their 8 yd line late in the 4th quarter with a chance to win i'd take that any day of the week. AT least Phil isn't here anymore with his .750 winning % and National Championship to his credit".

I didn't really have a problem with the fake field goal, snap pulled Palardy left and pressure in his face he just lobbed it up, but good snap and he has 2 seconds, and it's likely a TD, the receiver was open. I don't have a problem with the game plan because I wasn't at practice the past 2 weeks, it's possible that based on how practice has gone the coaches had little confidence in the QB, which was quickly confirmed by 2 quick INTs....hard to second guess coaching because we don't have the insight and perspective they do .... I have a problem with Pigs block, dropped ball that hit the receiver in the face, missed 30yd field goal, shanked punt....no matter now though...once again I'm just ready for this season to be over so I can have hope and excitement again. CBJ is our coach, like it or not and we couldn't afford to fire him if they wanted to, so it is what it is, let's just hope they can keep Team 118 together and look forward to the hope we can have in the offseason.

So the defense had zero credit for those 2 fumbles? Really?

Did you not see the dropped passes? Now I am not saying that Dobbs is wonderful in the least. He is off target at times and seems to enjoy throwing to the other team a lot. But he is a freshman and watching his good passes hit receivers in the hands, numbers, face masks, etc does not do much to build up a freshman's confidence. This offense has done absolutely nothing to help build the confidence of this 18 year old kid playing in from of 100k+ fans, and critical fans at that. And it probably doesn't help that he doesn't have eye brows to keep the sweat out of his eyes.

And here in lies the problem. Statistically, they did a darn good job, whether it was for the game for the season. But, we're down to a few minutes of the game, need 3-5 yards for a first down to help run out the clock and they can't get it done. this is supposed to be the team strength and they can't get it done. Stats are one thing...but when we've needed them, they have not showed up. And as we've seen this is can be the difference between winning and losing. Stats count, yes. So do wins and loses. Are the two the same....not necessarily!

I don't feel like going through this all night with you, but I will say this. This was a SLOPPY game on both sides of the ball. There were glimpses of decent play, but not much. Vandy should have destroyed us, but they came out and played like sh*t. That is the only reason we were in this game.

Playcalling was horrible. If we ran more than 3 different plays the entire game I would be surprised. We were playing for a bowl tonight. Do you think the play calling, coaching, effort from the players, etc looked like we were playing to win this game? I don't know what your definition of "playing well" is. I was at UT in the mid to late 90's, so my definition of "playing well" may just be a lot different than yours. But I don't know many people that would call this effort by the Vols anything other than sloppy at best.

RoanokeVol they ran the same running plays because he can't complete a pass. I would love for anyone on here to give a proposal on what Jake should do with an inept QB. They even ran the ball well. Should they have not ran so much and threw more ibcompletions and picks?

Everyone always whined when Jake stopped running the ball that worked to pass. Guess some people are never satisfied.

Two huge issues I have with coaching that I feel contributed to us losing this game
1. We had the ball up by 3 pts. With 4 minutes to go, do we use the entire play clock before snapping the ball? Heck no, we snap it with 20 seconds on the play clock like we are the team behind . Could have used up a lot of clock which would have given Vandy a lot less time on their final drive.
2. 3rd an 1 on the drive mentioned above. We hand the ball to Neal 5 yards deep in the backfield and he loses 2 yards! Maybe try a QB sneak?? With our O line, no way we should be Harding the ball to the RB that deep in the backfield on 3 rd and 1

Play calling on both sides was awful. Worst game i have ever personally seen.

Yeah, 14 points allowed and 4 turnovers. You're right the defense sucked.

PLEASE i'd give anything if someone tell me what Jones and Jake should have done differently with a bad QB and successful running game. Please!

Is They had a good day of rushing.

They held them to 7 points until the refs screwed them on 3rd and short (when they clearly lost yardage before the sneak).

Dobbs absolutely sucked today. Worley could have throw with his left hand and played better.

Your kicker looks hurt cuz he plays bad.

The fake FG was bad but it wouldn't have mattered. This was an embarrassing game no doubt. However, I don't see why we should bash Butch. Same team with Worley and they beat SCjr and nearly Ga. Dobbs bad play is the key. Not trying to defend the staff but the problem is more QB than coaching.
Dobbs play was good... Offensive play calling was junk.

No you're right. We should've kept running the ball.

The issue is that after 12 weeks if a season, not to mention fall camp, the summer and Spring practice, we still don't have a WR who can run a crisp and correct route and actually get open. Then, we evidently can't develop a QB to actually throw an accurate pass on time. That's the issue.

We should've been able to run and throw against a very pedestrian defense.... especially when they literally didn't have a single remaining starting DB left playing in the 4th qtr.

Coaching still is partly responsible. Our DB's backed off the line 6 or 7 yards each time allowing Matthews to take 1 step and catch. All he had to do is get by the first db , which he usually did because we couldn't/ wouldn't wrap him up good. He made several 1st downs or put us in countless 2nd a 2 or 3 yard situations using the exact same play. You'd think our coaches would have figured a way to stop this same play after the 5th time they ran it. A good coach would have.
