I hope he wins every game except against us. We can play them 2 or 3 times with the regular season, sec champ, and CFP. As long as we’re beating them I’ll be happy

IMO if there wasn’t a 12 team CFP coming into effect next season he might not have taken it. I think that it gives him and any other new coach at major program a little buffer. You could go 10-2 and still make the CFP and possibly make the Final 4. Will that outweigh losing 2 to UGA, Auburn, Tennessee or LSU in the eyes of the ad or the fans? It’ll be interesting to see what matters going forward.

Tough crowd down there.

They pretty much shamed Ray Perkins back to the NFL after 4 years and Bear handpicked him as a "Bama Man."

DeBoer gets 4 years, probably (I'm guessing) by virtue of a well negotiated Jimmy Sexton contract that gives him that much cushion.
I bet both sides are already looking at their back up plan. Bama will spend the next 3 years searching for his replacement, and DeBoer will spend the next 3 years searching for where he can land if and when that axe falls.

Long enough to beat us multiple times probaly. Nobody can match what Saban did but Bama made a great hire today. DeBoer has won everywhere he’s been. Great offensive mind and QB whisperer as well.
I hope that "QB whisperer" isn't becoming the next catch phrase. That is so silly .... like QB's are horses or snakes or something. It's dumb.

If I were an Alabama fan, I would be cautiously optimistic. It's not like DeBoer has a lengthy resume of coaching major college football.

What would worry me more than anything at this point is-

For his entire time in the P5 (either as OC or HC), DeBoar had Michael Penix as his starting QB. Minus the games missed at Indiana for injury of course.

Putting a blue blood program on the shoulders of someone who has not been in the P5 long enough to even cycle a full recruiting class or QB transition?

I would be worried. Easy to look like a great coach when you have a top of the line QB. Just ask Dabo.

You never want to follow a guy like Saban, but with Bama’s luck, which is infinitely better than any Catholic school that calls themselves the Fighting Irish, DeBoer will probably win several SEC Championships and play for some Natty’s. He’s a pretty darn good coach and UW looked really good this year with lesser athletes overall than Bama. We shall see.

Maybe Penix is a top QB because DeBoer made him one? He’s not in the same arena as Trevor Lawrence or Deshaun Watson in terms of polished talent that everyone saw from 50 miles away. The Who’s Who’s of CFB weren’t beating down Penix’s door coming out of HS.

He’s winning & probably will make the playoffs but will he get EVERY frickin call like Saban did?
Yes, Saban got every call down here last year. Bama wasn’t penalized heavily last season at all. But no, you are right that he won’t carry the sway/power/influence/fear over officials Saban has.

And Botch looked to be a passable coach with Dobbs behind center....

Just saying that when all of your P5 experience has come with one guy behind center, it's sometimes kinda hard to get a bead you know?

Like it or not-in the year 2023 how you do as a football coach is going to depend primarily on your QB. Is that fair, no-bit it's reality.

If KDB can develop QBs at Bama, he will be fine. Otherwise, he is gonna be gone by year 3-4, no way around it.

He developed Haener into an NFL draft pick at Fresno and led some solid offenses at Fresno as OC. Not to mention Penix was hurt at IU and Peyton Ramsey threw for 2500 yards in less than a full-season at IU. I know you’re only referencing P5 but he’s had QB success everywhere he’s been.

The Bama boosters will eat him alive the first time he loses 2 SEC games in a season.

Saban was able to calm them by saying they needed to be quiet or he would leave. This coach won’t have near that amount of clout.

Two years. This has a “Dennis Franchione” feel to it. I think DeBoer can coach, but will he and his family want to deal with all things Alabama? There was probably some anonymity for the UW coach, his wife and family in Seattle which they had grown used to. They will not have anything remotely close to privacy going forward.

That could happen in his first year. His SEC debut is against Georgia, and in the 2nd half of the season he has to play UT, LSU, and Oklahoma all on the road. Brutal schedule for a guy who needs to win big from day one.

Just dominating instantly at whatever level he coaches. And his QBs succeed. I think he can make Sayin way better than he would’ve been under Rees.

Franchione was doing well at Bama. Jumping to A&M was his downfall.

I think the guy can coach anywhere which is why I wished someone else got the job. His offense with 5 stars will be wicked.
I’m not sure he’s going to have many 5 stars after Saban’s recruits phase out. He isn’t a great recruiter.

Hope that comes to fruition. I feel like Bama now can recruit it's self. Getting a coach that just made it to the playoffs and championship game gives him some swag with recruits imo. But we'll see what happens. I really hope a mass exodus takes place.
