How long will Martin be at UT?

I have noticed that when people on this forum are unable to refute an argument with facts, they resort to name calling and insults. Frankly that is the mark of a 3rd class intellect. Coach Fox used to say that obscenities are the result of a weak mind trying to express itself forcefully. He probably was correct.

As someone whose intellect is squarely in the 2nd class. . .I take offense to your implication, Mr. Poop Head.

This is one of the funnier pieces of garbage you've posted on here. You continuously spout off "my hero, god, and soulmate's accomplishments dwarf anyone else's at TN by a longshot." Then, when presented with evidence to the contrary, you resort to the same behavior you're pretending others resort to when you present such great arguments.

No coach in UT history came close to Pearls accomplishments and while I hope Martin will change that my experience has been that UT has not been very successful in hireing BB coaches. I believe they made a big mistake in letting a proven winner go. Twenty or more wins every year of his career except two. Six straight NCAA tournaments, going 16 one year and 8 one year. Again no other coach has come close. I hope Martin does better, but the odds are very high that he will be a wash out.

It's easy to make your arguement when you fail to acknowledge the bad he has brought to UT as well. NCAA sanctions? What other UT coach has faced a two year suspension from coaching? It seems you are willing to overlook the bad in your love for Pearl.

In regards to Coach Martin, what good does this thread accomplish than allow you to display your bitterness? Seriously, I get you are upset, but what choice was UT left with? He broke rules, got caught, and broke more rules. He embarrassed himself, and more importantly, the university. He put us squarely in the crosshairs of the NCAA. How do you excuse that fact?

The guys who are the most bitter about Pearl's termination are not generally willing to concede the point about a likely long suspension for Pearl. They frequently argued that the NCAA was likely to look at what happened to him this year and just add on half a season or something; and therefore, they think that UT's best option was to just show up in June and take our chances. They also seemed to wildly underestimate exactly how damaging it would be for UT to spend a couple of seasons with a suspended head coach.

If you've convinced yourself that 1) a severe punishment for Pearl isn't likely to begin with, and 2) even if it happens, it wouldn't be a significant long-term hit to the program, then keeping Pearl is a perfectly rational position to take. June should disabuse them of the first notion. Fortunately they'll never get a chance to be disabused of the second.

(It goes without saying that most of these guys aren't concerned at all with anything so namby-pamby as "embarrassing the university," of course.)

Worst thread ever! Sad part is that so many people replied...me included. However, why ask a question that NO ONE can answer...then you attempt to answer it. So stupid it is funny! I have a hangover and a little short-tempered as a result. Seriously though, worst thread EVER!!

This thread is like asking how long before I get a flat tire on a car that doesn't run. This thread equals epic fail!

Given how fickle UT fans are probably at a minimum one season longer than the fans want him here.

you make my point, no one has tried to refute the fact that pearl took this program to heights no one would have believed possible before he took over. You can not refute that fact so your irrational hatred of him causes you to spout obscenities. I am well aware of Pearls mistake in lying to the NCAA. I don't deny that his problems were caused by his own mistakes, but I am not stupid enough to deny his accomplishments. :birgits_giggle:

Don't be even more stupid. Plenty of people have refuted the argument. Jerry Green and Ray Mears both have a higher winning percentage. Jerry Green had us ranked 4th in the country at one point; he was also about 2 minutes from making an elite eight. So, again, the crap about Pearl being so far ahead of every other coach is just that, crap.

Even in this thread Pearl Hatred Syndrome rears its head. Yes, the school probably had to fire him given the fact that the NCAA was going to murder us if he was still here. But to claim that the damage Pearl did is greater than the good is asinine.

Buzzball was little better than an intramural sport. Now, even with the college version of the gestapo after us we're still in on top flight recruits.

His accomplishments would have included burying the program with NCAA sanctions had he stuck around. We might have been worse off than when he took the job.

That's why Buzz beat #11 Georgia Tech. I'm sure any intramural team in the nation could have beaten them, right?

First, no one claimed this. Second, I take it you've never seen the OP post here before. He is the one that wanted this to turn into a Pearl thread; in fact, he's the one that brought him up first. Nice try.

I don't excuse it, I have stated several times that Pearls mistakes caused his problems. I personally believe firing him was a mistake. You saying that Pearl is facing two years of suspension is silly speculation. We don't know what if any additional punishment Pearl will get. He was fined 1.5 million dollars and suspended for 8 games. Actually, getting fired could turn out to be in Pearls favor with the NCAA. It may ameliorate his punishment and allow him to get back to coaching quicker. I hope that the self righteous on this board get to be judged as they have judged. A fellow said 2k years ago for with what judgement you judge you will be judge . I personally believe that is true.
