How many games before Crompton becomes The Starter ?

I think what we are seeing with Ainge is where Coach Cut broke him down. Now this is the building back up part that might be a little painful.

The best job that Cut did with a QB was Tee Martin in '98. I remember in the UGA game in the 1st qtr Tee threw an interception and Cut had a "come to Jesus talk" with him on the phone and he basically told him grow up or I'll get someone else to be QB. After that Tee started to produce.

Coach Cut just needs a little live action to work with Ainge. He might be a junior but he is as raw as Tee was.

Hasn't Ainge already gotten a earful? Last year's LSU game rings a bell. Tee started to produce after that so now Ainge will?

He had an entire spring with him.

Like I've been saying, the transition from the first scrimmage to the 2nd may be the most important in EAs career because it may determine if he is the starter this year or a bench player for the rest of his career.

Crompton was impressive, however they threw a lot more at Ainge defensively. Crompton didn't see near the type of pressure or variety of defensive looks hat Ainge did.

That said, Ainge did get rattled under pressure.

I don't think Cut was off coach, right? Whatever RS said to him he needs to forget it!

He had the green jersey on....I am talking about "LIVE" action

Tee got better with pressure Ainge seems to get worse
You are right....Tee was athletic and was a play maker with his legs

Did taking the green jersey off make him forget the offense? What does contact/no contact have to do with his inability to get to the line and call the plays?

Crompton outplayed him in this first scrimmage. There will be a couple more scrimmages before the Cal game. Crompton will be the starter against Cal if Ainge doesn't play better in the next 2 scrimmages. Fulmer has a lot riding on this season, too much to make this another Eric Ainge project year.

I will never fully understand the notion that a "younger" player will some how some way perform better just because of their youth.

Crompton will go through the same growing pains that Ainge has/is going through. Why will Crompton perform at a higher level than Ainge will? Crompton's abilities during a practice session?

If you were in Fulmer's shoes which would you go with? An inconsistent Junior, or a redshirt freshman coming off surgery?

Speaking of green jersey's lets just clarify that from yesterday. While Ainge was not wearing a green jersey, he was not getting hit.

That's asinine. He's either a football player or he's not. We have done him no favors by constantly coddling him. The only way we're going to find out if he is still trepidatious about being hit is to have the defense come after him full bore.

So, he didn't have a green jersey on but he couldn't be hit? I agree with hatvol thats stupid.

It gives me renewed confidence that our coaches haven't completely lost their minds.

So, we should just wait until Cal gets to town to see how he responds to contact?

Ok, since Ainge WILL break down under Cal's pressure the coaching staff should prepare Crompton to be the starter?

Hat would you have benched Carson Palmer his Junior year?

No . . . IMO if the coaches honestly still have questions how he will respond to contact, they shouldn't put him on the field. Ainge's problems aside, I just think it's a bad idea to let your QBs get hit at full speed in the preseason.

I don't remember SC having much of an option behind him. Also, Palmer's talents are to Ainge's as Jenna Jameson's body is to Aretha Franklin's.

That Ainge came to UT as a relatively well sought after recruit can't be denied. That he proved his talent as a true freshman is also obvious. Nevertheless, I worried about Ainge pretty soon after he received his season ending injury. I had seen talent and ability in him as a frosh, and felt he had the potential to become one of UT's forever remembered "greats." Upon learning he would be out for the season due to his injury, my memory brought up a series of photos I had seen of him as well as images of the times cameras had zeroed in on him while on the sidelines. What began to worry me was I couldn't recall ever seeing anything in his eyes or facial expressions in general that I could deem to be "mental toughness." Reading his recent comments about the upcoming season and not having to worry about being yanked out of a game like last year (He hasn't wasted any opportunities with the press to point this out!!) made me just feel real sick. Because he dwells on that and reasons mentioned above, I contend he worries about another injury all the time. I don't think he views the departure of Sanders and the arrival of Cutcliff as much of a positive on his behalf. And, I feel pretty certain he loses sleep wondering why fate had to send Crompton to Big Orange Country. To a greater or lesser degree, I worry that these issues are swirling around in his thoughts at all times, and most likely more so during scrimmages than at other times. I really fear that true competition for the QB position is destructive for him rather than positive because the spine isn't stiff enough for him to take on the circumstance with true guts and determination. I do hope he proves me wrong , and that I will have to dine on a perpetual diet of crow for years to come. These thoughts, though, have been with me since last season.

:dunno: :ermm:

If the coaching staff doesn't have question about how he is going to respond to contact, they're more lost than I had feared. If you have an established, productive QB, I agree with your premise. However, that's not the case here. If you're trying to decide who to play, I hink you have to have evidence compiled at full speed to make an intelligent decision.

Come on, :birgits_giggle: , you may argue that now, but after Carson's sophomore year?

I do not buy it for a minute........... :p

The coaches wanted to see the QB's get hit more, but the defensive players took it easy on our QB's. I don't think that's what Cut had in mind when he said "No green jerseys."
