He was a beast his sophomore year before he got hurt against Florida. He has the tools to be a monster. Sometimes it takes guys a little while to recover after an injury like that. He's no Cordarrelle. But he could be solid in the NFL. Like Meachem.
I thought he was drafted a little high though.
did you see the catch and retreat? everybody from teammates to announcers are killing him for it.
I just don't see the point in starting a thread like this..... You all should be happy for him instead trying to put down a VFL, especially after all he had to go through.
I think some people are misunderstanding the whole situation. The team and coaches are busting his balls for doing his little back step mainly in attempt to get more yards after the catch and possibly bust the play open. I think since his injury he has played a little scared and timid at times and when he catches the ball its always going to be in the back of his mind so that may play a minor role in his so called "retreat". I don't feel he is retreating for the sole purpose of getting away from the big hit that is sure to come. He is not shying away from the contact because he is scared of being tackled. They are just trying to teach him that stuff like that doesn't work to well in the NFL. I hope he figures it all out in time to get it all together and has a great career. I would love nothing more than to see Hunter be a star in the league for the Titans, but I am skeptical that will ever happen.
If you watch his highlights his back step is an attempt to avoid being tackled by the first man in order to try to break the play open. This just so happens to help avoid contact because like I said injury is always going to be in the back of his mind. I would agree that avoiding the contact is a little part of his retreat but trying to create something is the biggest reason for it. I agree that if your a yard or two short you should put your head down and try to drive threw for the first down and he will have to learn that the hard way. However if you have made a big play for a first down or just not even close you should protect yourself at all costs. Playing wreck less will get you hurt in a hurry. Look at Jerry Rice, the greatest WR ever to play the game. Did he play wreck less or did he get down and out of the way? He just about always went out of bounds before getting hit when he could of most likely picked up a extra yard or two most of the time if he had of stayed in bounds.Disagree completely. He (post injury) almost always retreats before ultimately flopping on the ground. It's how he avoids contact. Most players catch the ball and immediately head downfield. If there's a defender there they lower their shoulder and drive forward for as much yardage as they can get. That's not what hunter does. I'm not trying to bash the kid. Just stating the obvious. A great wr plays with a wreck less attitude putting themselves in harms way. It comes with the territory.
