Hurry Up No More

I do enjoy seeing Tennessee’s offense move the ball and score points. It’s been way too long since we’ve had such a prolific offense. But I’m quickly souring on the hurry up offense because as we all know, it puts too much pressure on the defense. No defense can hold up if they have to play 45+ minutes every game. I’m thinking if Coach Huepel is such an offensive genius he should not have to rely on a gimmicky offense to score points. If Tennessee played a more typical offense using a reasonable amount of play clock the defense might be more rested and have a chance to stop somebody. Having to rely on outscoring your opponent game after game is fools errand IMO. GBO!
The only reason the defense is on the field so much is because they can’t stop anyone. Even the beginning of the game they were driving it down our throats.

UK had a 9 minute drive on its first drive of the game. Thank goodness we had a capable offense last night.

3 yards and a cloud of dust mentality is gone.

This might be the worst hot take of the day.

I didn’t see much of blitzes until late in the game and then it paid off.

I think if you go back and watch, Beasley and Banks blitz alot throughout the game, particularly in the B Gaps. They never had much success in doing so.... There was a few times they pushed the pocket back, but that's when you need a great edge rusher. We've got one pretty good one, GA has about 3-4 elite ones.

Have to make the blitzes unpredictable then. Send a safety or Cb instead of a Lb.

Why would you think that is the norm?

And the speed of the offense had zero to do with thise first quarter drives and the defense being unable to get off the field.

Why do so many look for something to whine about?

I love our offense too, but I believe our linebackers need to be bigger, faster and more athletic. Not taking anything away from the linebackers we have now, but really they are oversized safeties. Ky's rbs exposed that fact.
That's where our depleted roster has come into play. Being down 14 scholarship players is one side of the ball missing of players that can be rotated in and out. We will get there defensively in a yr or two.

Nah, Evans injury scrapped any kind of ball control offensive game plan we had. I wish Hooker had run it more, but Jaylen Wright had some good runs.
Jaylen almost cost us the ball game with his lack of blocking and the play where he stripped the ball from Hooker.

I hope he gets tons of reps this week and begins to understand who and how to block or he will continue to be a liability unless he has the ball in his hands.

He did run it very well when he had the opportunity though..

I had high hopes for Beasley...but he wont grade out well in his Kentucky performance. Hopefully just an off day.

He’s a true freshman. That’s the hardest thing to pick up for freshmen. He made up for it by picking up some key first downs. Better question is where was Whitehead?

I agree..especially when he has had two or three practicng ahead of him most of the year. But he nees to learn a lot this week...a lot or we will have negative rushing yards agaisnt UGA because HH will be sacked repeatedly.

TOP is a legit concern. Defense needs to make 3rd down stops and the offensive while explosive still has too many 3 and out meltdown drives usually regarding penalties and pass protection issues with the OL. We still are exceeding expectations this year.

Yup. If the defense had gotten some stops early the offense was not being stopped, early lead would have forced UK our of their game plan and playing the way we want, which would have allowed TN to come with more pressure.

Nah, the hurry up has been fantastic. Our defense was bullied from snap #1. They played soft all night. They might have gotten gassed late, but that was all their own doing by failing to get off the field in the 1st quarter.

Yeah, I'm done with this gimmicky offense. Let's line up in the 'Bone, Darrell Royal lives!!
