Hyatt opts out of Orange bowl - headed to NFL

Was thinking this afternoon: what is the difference in a bowl game and a playoff game, in terms of career potential? Why would a guy who would sit out for a bowl risk playing in up to 3 additional playoff/championship games?

Some will not. This is not like the FCS division where that becomes an opportunity for exposure - these players already get the exposure they need. The playoff games will eventually become more about which team has the best team for next year - not who was the best team this year.

I knew he’d declare for the NFL but part of me thought he might want that record. Just 35 yards away or so.

that is what happens when you play in bowl games that don’t matter, bowl games unless the playoffs just don’t matter. lots of guys will sit

Love Hyatt but don’t like the opt out. He could have had the best season of any TN WR ever. I understand the decision but I don’t like it.

I think we’ll see more and more players sitting out the playoffs over the next few years.

I dislike it, but I also get it. Go Vols, beat Clemson, and give me a great off-season waiting for the next kickoff!!!

It's a proven fact. During the bowl game, Hyatt and Tillman, add Hooker to it, will be talked about for 45 minutes. Anything anyone does on the field will be compared to their best games. Free press is good press.

Runor has it Hyatt really wanted to play in the bowl game but he's just too busy still scoring TDs on Bama

It might change but a National Title still >>>>>> Orange Bowl "champion".

The problem is college football is treated like a minor league but without being an actual minor league. In an actual minor league situation, Hyatt could be called up to an NFL team midseaon and nobody would think anything of it. But that's now how it's ever worked for American football.
