Hyatt sitting not an issue

It is a meaningless game which has the potential to deprive him of a future he's worked hard to achieve.
Hard to claim it's meaningless when tens of thousands of people spend hundreds of dollars each to attend, and a couple of million more will be building their Friday night around watching the game tomorrow.

I don't think we'll really miss Hyatt that much tomorrow night. Odd to say that about a 4.29 guy, but I don't think blazing speed was a big factor in all but 2 or 3 of his touchdowns. It was all scheme. I think Squirrel will be just fine. I can't find a 40 time on him but I did see something about being clocked at 23.6 mph via gps (whatever that means) - article said that would put him among the fastest players in the NFL.

I'm just praying Milton has learned to put some air under the deep ball since Vandy.

GBO!
Where'd you see him clocked at 23.6? If true (probably not) that's insane. The fastest NFL player this year is 21.6 mph

I disagree that where you finish doesn't mean jack. I've been watching just as long, and some of my best memories of Tennessee football were bowl games (1990 Cotton Bowl, 1986 Sugar Bowl, 1996 Citrus Bowl)... and in my lifetime, they have only played in one with a National Championship on the line. It has nothing to do with next season. These games count and they are of a higher profile than most of our regular season games.
These games are all 50/50 . We could lose/win a close one or one team gets their doors blown out. They are unpredictable . I’m just glad we’re on the rise , this game will not determine how far we rise or how far we fall . I will not be devasted for the next 8 months of my life . Just glad I’m alive to us with a real coach . One that if he did get fired wouldn’t stick around to sabotage the program for the next 15 yrs because he was butt hurt. Only one reason we made bad hires for a combined 12 years. CPF is the only coach I’ve ever seen totally sabotage a program after he was fired .

My stance is pretty simple.

It is ridiculous to talk about the Orange Bowl as if it's the Orange and White game. If certain players don't want to play in the game? Fine. That's their business. If their (former) teammates don't have a problem with it, then neither should we, as fans.
I just don't happen to follow the logic most frequently associated with that choice. We were no longer in the running for the College Football Playoff when we played Vanderbilt a month ago, but that complete mismatch of a game was meaningful enough to participate in, while the Orange Bowl vs Clemson is not? That doesn't make any sense.

Choosing to not play, for whatever reason (even valid reasons such as Draft stock), is quitting. There is a game still to be played and he has chosen to quit. I don't necessarily blame him but I think it's a bad trend developing in CFB. It won't be long until players are sitting out regular season games.

You'd do the same thing if you worked at a 9 - 5 job earning $40K/year, and got offered a $300K/year contract doing basically the same thing at a prestigious company. I don't believe for a split second, your friendly ties to your co-workers, fondness for the company itself, or how much you liked the town, would make you turn up your nose at that $300K/year job. And you know it's true, quitter.

He got a free college educaction and would not be in the position he is in if not for playing at UT. To me sitting out a bowl should not be an option, unless hurt like Tillman. He could’ve gotten hurt any game and that’s always a risk. It’s a big NY6 bowl and he is letting the team down. I’d like to know how often a player gets hurt in a bowl and loses a lot of money.

Hooker wasn't good enough to start until he was 23 years old......Milton will be fine, he is only 22.

I am not saying he won't be. I just don't think you should expect too much of a change in his ability to vary his passes. I do think what he is able to do will be good enough for most situations.

On the sitting out/quitting/injury issue, Jason Allen comes to mind. I remember a lot of worries about his draft stock when he dislocated a hip vs GA his senior year. Fortunately, he still went 16th overall.

Fun fact
Hyatt had 5 tds against Bama.
After that he had 5 tds the rest of the season.
An even more fun fact . . . 5 TDs in 6 games is still a pretty good pace and 5 TDs would have still made him the season leader in TD receptions.

This drivel is riddled with assumptions. It is how a guilty child acts when an adult confronts them. They lash out with unsubstantiated personal attacks. But this is not surprising because it's so prevalent in the time we find ourselves. All over a disagreement on words. I don't know you and certainly won't condemn you because you are well within your rights to do so. But I am also well within my right to disagree with your approach.

Of course, you're in your rights to disagree with me, I never said you weren't. You must be drivel-driven to think I did say that.

Finishing ranking don’t mean jack. We have a good coach and that is what makes you good regardless of who plays or your after bowl game ranking. Been watching this for 40 years. We’ve been blown out , blew people out and depending on who are coach was it didn’t affect the next year at all.
It really is true. I think the extra practices are a huge benefit, but we won bowl games at the end of 85, 87, 01, 04, 07, 16 and 19 and then came out the next season and completely fell on our face. Nebraska disamantled us at the end of 1997 and we won the whole thing the very next year. You just never know what you're going to get in a bowl game.

I love how the conversation has shifted to Tillman and Hyatt. Most give Tillman some slack considering what his season turned into. Hyatt is not injured nor did he sit out for 7 weeks this year after surgery.
Your right.. that is exactly what Hyatt is avoiding with the draft in a few months. Call it what you want. It is still the right decision for him from a business stand point. Heupel knows this and so do his teammates

I am happy that I am partly responsible for expanding your vocabulary to include words you are so impressed with you lay those new words in your very next response. But I choose to uplift and not tear down. Stating facts about someone quitting (instead of making it sound better by labeling it opting out) is not tearing down. It's calling something what it is.

Again I am not disagreeing. Just saying that he quit. Nothing more.

I do my thing, and you do your thing. I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine. You are you, and I am me. And if by chance we find each other, it will be beautiful. If not, it can’t be helped.

Well last season Bama lost 2 1st rd recievers in tue playoffs. ND lost a lb in a bowl game and cost him 20 m. Grayson McCall this season just had a severe neck issue in their bowl game. Id say it happens

There is no more risk in a meaningless bowl game vs a meaningless last game of the regular season.

We can all call things something different. I'd say Jalin was advised to skip the bowl game, likely by Tillman and Hooker knowing their situations. Heupel himself could have said the same or other influential people. I may be wrong about who Jalin talked with but I can see all of that happening

Jalin didnt declare until after the season. He may have known but the world didn't. There is a difference there.

You avoided the obvious underlying question. When does the quitting stop? Can the college football world continue to look forward to seeing more players string a wonderful season together (12 games) and just quit? What happens when this starts backing up in the regular season? And for the record I think we all knew as Vol fans after his incredible game against Alabama that JH's days as a vol was over at the end of the year.
