Hypothetically if this country split agreed to split into two countries...

One with more conservative values and the other with more progressive values. You could only be a citizen of one country or the other. All the resources were divided evenly. Each country had the same level of beauty, natural resources etc. The only difference is policy positions.

Would more democrats want to be a permanent citizen of the more conservative nation or would more conservatives want to be part of a progressive nation? Which nation would more independents choose? The one other thing is neither nation would change from their overall policy positions in the future.

Which would you choose?

More liberals would move in and poison the conservatives areas.

Like liberal cities most people would flock to the liberal side out of emotions, or biases or ignorance then in 10-15 years come crawling back to where taxes are low, cities are safer, and families can live normal lives

Would each country retain the stereotypical economy and economic outcomes as progressive and conservatives areas of the current country?

I would not want either but would likely lean to the conservative side.
It would be great if there was a third option where those of us who prefer a more balanced world could live.

Many will choose side where they don't see Government but can see that they are there based off results and things operating smoothly. Many will choose the side that allows them to be a capitalist. Society wants the party where my moral/religious beliefs or skin color is not judged based off someone else feelings being hurt.

I'll take the side where I'm not told what to think, say or do.

What makes you think it would be an even split. Most of the money and industry is in the democratic states.

Almost all the land would be conservative while almost all the cities would be liberal. Industry would be great in the cities (at first) but would be utterly dependent on the countryside for subsistence. Liberals would try to move to the conservative state only to be met by a border wall. War would ensue as liberals would pour over the walls but be met with armed resistance from those in conservative states but be overwhelmed as conservatives didnt like shooting unarmed people and there were so many of them. So eventually, liberals take back the conservative side, tax everything and ruin it like they have the squalorous cities they live in and control.

If it were divided up based on where people actually live now, and at the county level instead of state, the liberals would be left with less than 5% of the land mass (urban centers only) -and would have no ability to feed themselves. The conservative parts of the country could demand exorbitant prices for food and other necessities. If somehow libs were unfairly given 50% of the landmass, they would still be subject to starvation from the simple fact that they do not have the knowledge or temperament to farm or ranch. They would be forced to import massive numbers of Central American farm workers who would become a new defacto slave class excluded from the ruling class of Democrat elites and working on the New Democrat controlled mega farm “plantations”. So the Democrat party would be right back to its 1860 status and would feel right at home 😂

So in the divorce how do we separate accrued social security benefits? How do we handle health insurance for all those people who paid in and are now on Medicare? How do we split the financial system of tax deferred private savings?

There will be no amicable split and whomever wins the new government will screw the people to offload their obligations and get their hands on all that currently protected private wealth.

Believe we have 5 occupied under two names.

Republicans- Independent, Libertarian
Democrats- Independent and Progressives

A 3rd will emerge once the progressive have established themselves through the Trojan horse of the democrat party and has overtaken in numbers. Happening pretty quickly as the old guard is slowly fading.
