It was our money at one point.
Taxes do not pay his salary. It is not State appropriate moneyI was getting ready to say... It IS our money isn't it? Donors, taxpayers... It's not all football revenue. Or maybe it IS now. SEC sharing and TV money is a helluva chunk of dough! I read somewhere a long time ago that UT's AD was 100% self-sufficient. I wonder if that's still the case.
A raise, yes - paying him like he already won the NC? Slightly insane. $8 mil. a year would be fine. Kiffin came close to the playoff last year; Fisher has a NC; Kelly has made not one but multiple playoffs, as has Day. Heupel did a great job this year and deserves a raise; hopefully we can avoid our past nonsense of overpaying out of panic before we've actually arrived at the destination. Here’s the thing. When we win it affects everything from game attendance, UT apparel and UT paraphernalia sales, school attendance, local businesses thrive and more. We have a keeper. This isn’t the time to be greedy. $10M a year. That’s good for 5th and puts him just ahead of Kelly, Fisher, Tucker (WTF Mich St?), Day, Rhule (again, WTF?) and Kiffin, who are all $9M+. I’d take Heupel over every one of them so pay him.
So Kiffin deserves his pay because he came close to making a playoff but Heupel doesn't? WeirdA raise, yes - paying him like he already won the NC? Slightly insane. $8 mil. a year would be fine. Kelly, Fisher, and Day all have more of a track record in recruiting than Heupel, and two of those outrecruited him this year.

In truth we don’t know who truly out recruited who just yet. But I get your points. GBO!A raise, yes - paying him like he already won the NC? Slightly insane. $8 mil. a year would be fine.
