I’m OK with a raise for Heupel based on team rank

So I think that easily places him in the 7.5 million range. Agree?

Again, I feel like we are continually beating the same dead horse here.

1. The Tennessee admin loves CJH.
2. The Tennessee AD is a close personal friend and brought CJH here.
3. Most of the bigger schools head coaches are represented by a team of agents, lawyers, etc. whose only purpose
is to get the coaches pay increases and long-term contracts and ensure that they are collectively paid more than they are worth in most cases and have contracts until they are 80 years old :)
4. CJH went 7-5 last year and received a 1 Million dollar increase.

Don't cry for me (CJH) Argentina. CJH is very likeable and has done a great job but he really, really doesn't need Volnation worrying about his raises. That's covered.

Heupel came closer than Kiffin and Heupel laps Kiffin.

Edit: Yes, I say pay him a little over market. What’s another million or two? He’s doing great things for this school and town even if he never wins it all. And if we go by NCs then the only coach we should have ever paid since the 50s is Fulmer. And why is Stoops getting $9M? You can’t pay Heupel less than that man.
Stoops has elevated that program beyond anything it has seen in several decades. Heupel had a good year; other coaches have had good years, gotten big contracts, and then fell on their faces i.e. Frost, Campbell, Fuentes, etc. The way we got into the spot we were in prior to Heupel was giving an extension prematurely. How about we wait for a change until we know for sure we’ve got the right guy?

It's a shame that we have a coach, based on the endless threads about it and haggling and negotiations over what amount would be 'acceptable' here in VolNation, that is only about money and nothing more than a mercenary who will chase the higher dollar amount to wherever it takes him the second he looks at the coaching salary rankings and finds that his salary isn't right in line with his team's rank.

It would be really nice to find a coach who had a great working relationship with the athletic director and who had some character and was interested in building something lasting here, including a culture of winning and bringing UT football back to the elite level, where it belongs. And who understood that as those things were being accomplished, he and the AD would take care of his financial situation to everyone's satisfaction. Except the paranoid few who lose sleep any time a coaching job opens up or a kid sends a vague 'tweet'.

I guess you can't have everything these days ................

there's not a coach in the country I would swap him for! Does that mean he's the best coach in the country? Yes, it does! Do whatever needs to be done! But GETERDONE!

Heupel did more than go 7-6 in his first year. He basically put life back into a program that was quickly falling on lifesupport after Covid and Pruitt double teamed it

Heupel will be at 9mil minimum based on the landscape of the SEC (mostly) and his body of work. Some of you may not like that, but look at what's happening with marketing exposure and applications this past fall. He will be compensated handsomely as he should be.

Those coaches had all kinds of signs that they weren’t the right person. Heupel has signs he is. Of course that may mean something different to everyone. All that matters is what that means to our AD, President and others that have a say in Heupel’s contract.

When Bama decided to go after Saban and get him for whatever price it took, they went to the top of the mountain. If you think it's too risky for us to do that with Heup, then you're in the wrong discussion.

If you wanna dance, you have to pay the fiddler.

Just make sure it's a lighter buyout clause for us, and a hefty one for someone else.

You might be missing a minor detail in that comparison. Saban already had a NC under his belt; Heupel does not. If you can't grasp the vast difference that makes, you could be the one in the wrong discussion.

Never in the history of the internet has there been a more nonsensical comment than to say all those other coaches had signs they weren't it. Did you even read what coaches I listed? Do you know who they are? Everyone on this forum and everywhere else wanted Frost until he bombed at his alma mater; practically everyone on this forum wanted Campbell the last time we had an opening, and if I recall correctly, we even pursued him - because at the time his Cyclones were playing very well, having lost only one more game that year than we won this year and having played in the Fiesta Bowl. Fuentes played in the ACC championship his first year at Virginia Tech, and many, many people here wanted him when we hired Pruitt. So to say there were signs all along about any of those guys, much less all of them, is simply dishonest, uninformed, or both.

Why assume he's talking about the coaches you listed, rather than those you alluded to - those TN actually hired, and raised/extended prematurely?

He way outperformed his current contract and his new contract will reflect that and add backpay...heard it here first. $9 million isn't NC winning money anymore...it's what Stoops and Kiffin pull.

Wasn’t thinking it was actually her because her entire net worth is only 8 mil………surely she can’t be making 9 a year.

Made my statement because of how the post was worded. “He’s getting 9 million plus/year.”………he’s not getting that as we speak. He hasn’t “been” getting that. Is that what he “will” get? Cool. However is that what he currently makes?

Pretty sure it was a prediction...but Carmen Electra anyway.

figured she was worth more than 8 million.

“Getting” is ambiguous
If it’s a prediction…….it’s a smart one. At some point surely he will make 9 million.

I’d like to see Heupel make top 4 in the SEC. not sure if Jimbo is stagnant at 9.

He makes an appropriate amount for an Orange Bowl team.

If he can make improvements next year then follow that with a championship caliber team we can discuss the matter.
4.5 million for an Orange Bowl team ? The guy across the fiel is making 10m a year

What about Lincoln Riley, Saban, Smarr, Dykes, Day and all the other NY6 bowl coaches. I would venture to say outside Dykes he is the lowest paid by a lot
