I’m OK with a raise for Heupel based on team rank

For all of those saying he should not be getting a large ~9m contract tell me this….Who would you hire to replace him if he leaves and what do you think in today’s market you will have to pay them?

10m is the answer to induce the kind of coach you would want which I would argue will not be the kind of offensive guru that CJH is.

In business you can’t be emotional and this is a business. It is not what you think the employee should make, it is what is the market rate is and what will it cost you in todays market to replace them.

White is smart, the man will be paid as he should.

All you hand-wringers on here: were you alive way back in 2014 when a guy named Malzahn took a SEC team that had not won a SEC game the previous season to the BCS championship in his first season as HC? He was also declared an offensive guru. How did that turn out?

You give him a raise but only 4 year deal that is constantly renegotiated every year but he is performing now and I would say the culture and product is moving forward.

The bigger question to me is if he leaves by feeling disrespected WHO would you get to replace him.

I hear Pruitt is available or Butch?

With news of Beamer's raise, latest SEC coach salaries: Saban $11.7 M Smart $11.25 M Fisher $9.5 M Kelly $9.5 M Kiffin $9 M Stoops $9 M Napier $7.4 M Beamer $6.5 M Drinkwitz $6.5 M Freeze $6.5 M Pittman $6.2 M Heupel $5 M* Lea $3.75 M Arnett $3 M

There's what current SEC coaches now earn.

I honestly believe that CJH should be in the top 3 of SEC coaches.

We also know that if UGa wins another National Championship that Smart will get a raise and go over 12 M a year topping nick saTan.

9,75 or 10 M a year is justified for CJH to rank him respectable in SEC coaches pay.

ALL of our other coaches should also get a BIG pay raise to help keep them with us too..

We do NOT need to lose anymore of our valuable and extremely successful coaching staff!!!

If we are serious about getting back to the National Championship game and Winning it then we MUST pay whatever it takes to keep the best coaches on the hill!!!

Get ALL these men the new contracts and pay raises they've earned and deserve and let them get back to serious recruiting and working the portal NOW!

BIG raises like these WILL also tell the top recruits that UT is serious and determined to WIN more National Championships in the very near future.

#Geterdonenow!

VFL...GBO!!!

The "who would you get" argument is lazy and silly. That same argument was trotted out when Butch was here.

He deserves a raise; it's early to pay him like Saban or Day.

Stoops has elevated that program beyond anything it has seen in several decades. Heupel had a good year; other coaches have had good years, gotten big contracts, and then fell on their faces i.e. Frost, Campbell, Fuentes, etc. The way we got into the spot we were in prior to Heupel was giving an extension prematurely. How about we wait for a change until we know for sure we’ve got the right guy?

WAIT UNTIL WE KNOW FOR SURE WE GOT THE RIGHT GUY? UNTIL WE KNOW FOR SURE WE GOT THE RIGHT GUY???

It took the GUY we've got a season and a half to get to the top of the world in college football rankings. (WITH THE NUMBER ONE OFFENSE IN THE COUNTRY) Thats a feat that many of us would have doubted would occur in our lifetimes. If you don't know by now that this is the right guy, maybe you should start following Ole miss or Auburn!

If his new contract does not rank him in the top one third of SEC coaches, then we deserve losing the best thing to come along since the General!

The point is that we don't know yet what Heupel is to us. Early returns appear to say he's a winner; but early returns have been deceiving before, more than once, hence my examples in my previous post.

I hear ya, and it's a good point. We've been burned numerous times. But the dilemma we face is either invest now or risk losing him now or in the near. And certain aspects of his two year stint indicate that he's worth it whereas others who took the job did not. Has any UT coach won 85% in his second year after a good first year (considering the situation), and beat so may powerhouses along the way? And by such huge score differentials? I think this guy is different and has shown enough to justify a major investment.

Thank you for the well-reasoned, intelligent argument. There isn’t a lot of that in this thread.

Yes. I predict they are going to finish the season ranked in the top 4.
1. georgia
2. Tcu
3. Alabama
4. Tennessee
5. Ohio state
6. Michigan

Do you think it's early to pay him as much as Kiffin or Stoops then?

If you paid him $9.4 he's still way less than them. He'd be above everyone whose achieved less then him and lower then every coach in the conference whose achieved more

The floor for market value is Stoops. Hs is already a better coach than Stoops and in my opinion done more... 11 win season. I believe it is repeatable and not a fluke. He has the scheme and the personal EQ that people will follow his lead. For these reasons I say Stoops is the market value floor. He might wind up making $10M. I have no problem with this.

Careful. He might get overly dramatic, trot out his Ivy League advanced degree and then block you if he disagrees with you.
