Saddam was a bad man, but we don't have the right to invade every country where a dictator does bad things to his own people. God did not make us the police force of the world. The GOP used to preach that before Bush became president. In fact, Bush ran in 2000 with a pledge not to become a nation-builder. He has all but destroyed the GOP and most Republicans know it.
I'll take it one step farther, I don't think we have the right to tell another nation they can't develop nuclear energy! If they are a sovereign nation with the rule of law and elections... we do not have the right to demand anything of them except they don't attack our nation!
I am a former officer and my son is a 2004 USMA (i.e. West Point) graduate and has a bronze star. He spent 15 months in Iraq and our cousin is on his 4th tour in Iraq. There is no war on Terror... it has been a war against Saddam and a war against Al qaeda but not a "War on Terror." You can't fight a war against a "method." That's like saying I am fighting a war on crime. There will always be crime, you can't defeat crime or terrorism but you can defeat a man or woman who commits crimes. It is a stupid play on words that the Bush administration has used repeatedly to justify their actions. The war plans to invade Iraq began before 9-11.

As a former soldier and the father of a Captain in the Army, I hate war! However, I know that war is and must be the final act of diplomacy. The problem with the Bush Administration is that they used war as the first or second phase of diplomacy and seldom used diplomacy as a serious option. In the future, we should adhere to President Eisenhower's advice...

Just for clarification..... You believe Iran has legitimate elections?
What about the Truman Doctrine?
I don't really know... but I do struggle with that debate. Iran is a sovereign nation... that's the bottom line. If we knew for sure, they would use a nuke against Israel we should provide that INTEL to Israel and allow them the honor... They can't attack us, they have no delivery system and I seriously doubt they would provide the raw materials or finished product to a rouge organization to attack us. We live in a dangerous world of our on creation. The advent of both chemical weapons and atomic power is of our own design. Once Pandora's box was opened, it was only a matter of time until all the players in the world have the technology.
