No prob bob. I still can't believe we couldn't manage to get our 800th this year.

eh, we'll get it first thing next season

too bad we blew the mizzou game though, would have been fun for UK to be the 800th win...won with a 1 game interim coach

I hate ND and I hate Alabama but for me this is a conference thing and that means Money

For a program that is broke...we need money (However painful)

Somebody gets it.

It helps us if Bama wins. Will not get all emotional about it. But it helps the SEC finances for them to win.

Not really certain that's true. If I recall correctly, Bama's (& really any bowl participant's) paid per appearance...not an amount based on whether they win or lose.

Same amount of money should be flowing into the conference

I'm glad the Butcher will be able to get No. 800 in game 1 at Neyland.

Everyone that's asked me about the National Championship has gotten the same response from me, "I want Notre Dame to lose." "Why?" they ask me. I respond, "because F*** NOTRE DAME, THAT'S WHY!!!"

I hope ND pounds the ever living crap outta Bama, because I will forever hate Bama more than any program in the world.

No the money is guaranteed already winning or losing doesn't matter so bama gets 17 million for the game thats 17 million coming back to the SEC UF in the sugar bowl gets 13 million thats 13 million for the SEC...So everyone that thinks that winning has something to do with it I don't have a clue where you got that idea from

Buck Fama, go golden domers! Eye hate Alabama.

I'm right there with you Clops. I hate ND. I have seen us beat Alabama and I have seen us lose to Alabama. I have seen us beat ND and I have seen us lose to ND. At least ND don't rub it in our face by singing that damn Rammer Jammer song. And I'm sick of seeing every other car here in the Tri-Cities decked out with script A's and that Roll Tide BS that one out of 50 of these "fans" know the meaning of it.

I'm a Tennessee fan, not an SEC fan. I pull for the Vikings in the NFL and you can bet your favorite Tenn hat I don't pull for the Bears, Packers, or Lions.

How does it benefit Tenn for Alabama to win another NC?

We recruit more head to head against Ala than ND, I would imagine, I don't know that to be fact.

As to OP, ESPN is not the media, they are a for profit sports and entertainment network. They talk about what makes them the most money. That is where it begins and ends. ND has a huge national following that dwarfs anything Tennesse can claim.

Thanks.

But I didn't know the payouts varied per BCS game though; I thought it was a uniform total amount. Like I thought each BCS bowl had a total payout of 18 mil last season

The exposure of winning the National Championship equates to dollars in the Conference. This does not translate to dollars for winning .This is bigger than that It is the exposure of the conference which leads to more games for the entire conference on TV and in Recruiting. Every time the conference plays a game all schools are shown. When the SEC has their wins and losses the conference is shown
This is a business deal not a simple transaction
I really hate when this board goes personal

Pretty sure both teams get equal pay and we get the same share of proceeds, win or lose, so why pull for the turds?

Edit: didn't see that this had been discussed. Cooking Christmas dinner and viewing VN periodically has it's drawbacks.

winning would equate more exposure for alabama. would it not?

What you're talking about almost sounds more like exposure just for the appearance (the SEC logo seen in a nationally broadcasted title game, the teams referenced by announcers or commercials, etc)

I haven't looked through this whole thread, so apologies if this has been said, but I was stationed in the Newport, RI for a few years and the ND dilemma makes more sense to me having lived up there. The North East is very Catholic and very Irish. There aren't too many (any?) big time Football Schools up there (BC had 15 minutes there with Flutie in the 80s). It seemed like everyone up there adopts ND as their team. ESPN is in Conn. A huge percentage of the U.S. Population is concentrated up there. Huge Market. Therefore, in a sense, Tennessee is no ND. Heck, I live in Chattanooga, and I can count just as many AL, GA, AU and even FL fans here in town as I can Vol fans-- all of those out number Vandy, which is just a couple hours up I-24 from here. So that comment doesn't bother me. Heck I kinda like Brian Kelly and will be rooting for the Irish for only the 2nd time in my life when they square off against a team I truly dislike (Buck Fama!) in the championship game. First time was when ND played USC a few weeks ago-- for obvious reasons.

You can blame Hollywood and "Rudy" for some of the hype Notre Dame gets too. Maybe we need to make our own film. Perhaps call it "Grudy"

We have our own movie although the story line never focused as tightly around Tennessee football as "Rudy" did with respect to Notre Dame pigskinery. The made-for-television movie (1989) "Unconquered" was the life story of Richmond Flowers Jr., a great hurdler and our first true burner at the wide receiver position. As you can see, however, from this synopsis, his narrative was cast widely against the background of his liberal father's role as the Attorney General of Alabama during the civil rights era:

"Unconquered is the story of Richmond Flowers Jr, the son of the pro-civil rights Attorney General in Alabama during segregation in the 1960s. The film starts with him as a scrawny young boy dreaming of becoming an American Football player despite having flat feet and being small for his age. The rest of the film is him a few years later when he has grown into someone with the potential to be an athlete but who suffers abuse and isolation from his peers at school for his father's liberal views which go against the views of the majority of the white people in the state where he lives. He becomes friends with Cindy, who is an orphan and lives with foster parents and is ostracised simply for being poor, and Arnie who has unrequited love for her and is also an outcast partly as he is seen as a geek but mainly for his father publishing a liberal newspaper. The story tells of the three friends' struggle against the other pupils at school, but also theirs and their families' struggles against the wider community and those that oppose the Civil Rights movement, including the KKK. It also charts Richmond Jr's rise to stardom as an athlete and a football player. This film is based on a true story but states at the beginning that some events and characters have been added for the benefit of the dramatisation" (Unconquered (1989) (TV) - Synopsis ).

Needless to say, this movie never received the hype nor the endless rebroadcasts of "Rudy."
