Odd that the only 2 loss team in the top 25 is Bama (and at 6 no less).

What exactly is your model taking into account? I’d be interested learn how you’re quantifying this. Are you still using the same formula? Where are you getting the point differentials from (average adjusted)?

It's all outlined in the original post on this thread.

This year, more than any I can remember, SOS has varied wildly amongst the top teams. Bama is still pulling an absurdly high rank because of an enormous SOS. While Bama is 13.6 points clear of Tennessee, it's solely because Bama's SOS (80.2041) is a full 40 points ahead of Tennessee's (40.0357). And that's not going to change much over the next 3 weeks, as Bama has Missouri and LSU while Tennessee has Kentucky and Mississippi St.

SOS is especially killing Penn State. Despite being undefeated, they have only played 1 team that is .500 or better.

Ah I see it. Thanks. Surely the BCS model wasn’t that simple, was it?

Yardage differential seems to be weighted much less than it should be relative to SOS. Have you considered adding a metric that quantifies how teams perform against the spread throughout the season as well? It would interesting to see how that changed things, if at all.

And I’m not arguing the validity of Bama being that high. What I saw on Saturday were two talented but flawed teams who were roughly on par with each other. Either one could have been up 20 at halftime if they’d capitalized on the other’s mistakes/hadn’t repeatedly shot themselves in the foot.
