I Created a CFB Ranking System

According to my system, UT has the best strength of schedule in the country (opposing win % + opposing adjusted point differential). That's what is keeping them over A&M at the moment. Every one of UT's opponents is above .500 and only UGA has a negative point differential at -0.8333. UT's 6 opponents have lost a combined 3 games against teams other than UT.

lol, Tennessee is helped in the SOS by losing a game and A&M is hurt by winning.

also interesting to see the differences. 25-6 are all pretty incremental. 6-5-4 is a 14 point swing and 4-3-2 is close then 2-1 is another 13 point gap.

Actually, neither one was hurt or helped all that much. The close score kept both team's point differentials up. If the result were reversed, UT would still have the second highest SOS in the country.

Michigan has actually played a surprisingly good schedule so far. Rutgers is the only team they've played that's currently below .500. And of course, UM is currently sitting on a 37.6667 scoring differential.

128. Buffalo (1-6) - 33.0987

A few Strength of Schedule notes:

-Buffalo is 1-6 despite having the 110th S.O.S. That's how you find yourself in 128th and a full 8 points back of 127.

-Washington, Nebraska, and Baylor are outside the Top 10 despite being unbeaten because they have the 126th, 114th, and 128th ranked S.O.S., respectively.

-Tennessee has the #1 S.O.S. All 7 opponents are above .500. Their only opponent that's only 1 game above, UGA, is the only team with a negative point differential. UT's S.O.S. score is 88.4141, more than 5 full points above PSU at #2.

If anyone is curious as to how certain teams compared to others, i.e. how they got their scores, I can break that down for you.

Sounds good to me, even if someone from Alabama thought of it. However, sportswriters will never go for it. Take away their polling power, and they would lose over half their readers within a year.

Whether or not the sportswriters are the best at creating a poll, human polls are superior to math systems.

24. Washington St (6-2) - 136.0517 (25/25/25)
25. Tulsa (6-2) - 135.4516 (UR/UR/UR)

Bama jumped Michigan without playing a game because most of Bama's opponents won, while several of Michigan's lost. Plus, Michigan tacked on a win against a lousy opponent. In about a month, the Wolverines went from having a rather impressive SOS to having a rather crappy SOS.

FAU is so far behind second-to-last place because they got absolutely murdered by WKU. That 52 point loss brought the Owls to a -17.75 APD.

It is amazing that Baylor has only played one team that is above .500. Even their FCS opponent (1-7 Northwestern St) is a steaming pile of crap.

Still not buying TN is better than Oklahoma or FSU. Maybe talent wise, but given we are so turnover prone #123 in Bowl Subdivision in turnovers lost. Only Duke, BG, and Kansas are worse. Let that sink in.

Tennessee is still receiving a major boost from SOS. I would personally rank OU and FSU above them, but my opinion is not reflected in these rankings.

Yes when we figure in SOS TN one cold argue that the gonk-u-lator is correct putting TN above OU and FSU--obviously evidenced by Baylor's schedule, or lack there of. Having watched all three on multiple occasions it doesn't take Knute Rockne to see both teams (particularly on the offensive line/defensive lines) are significantly better than TN. Lastly what the ranking system can't factor is the ability of the coaching staff (or our lack there of).

The bold is my point. Computer and math systems are dumb because computers and spreadsheets can't watch games.
