Meyer is just trying to save the recruiting class. My guess is he won't be back. After some time and of course NSD passes, he will announce his health has deteriorated further and unfortunately, won't be able to return to UF as he had hoped to do. This is all just a sensational lie to convince the recruiting class for this year to stick with their commitments and to keep as many of the Juniors and Seniors from leaving for the NFL as possible... Its a sham and an underhanded way to mislead these young men and he is trying to provide a false sense of security that doesn't really exist.

The amount of ignorance in this post is staggering.
Meyer publicly squashed interest in the ND job multiple times over the past two seasons, yet you know different?
Ignorance? Just like he wasn't leaving Utah? You mean like this Urban quote?
"I'm not going to Notre Dame. Ever. I'm going to be the coach at Florida for a long time, as long as they want me. Print it" (Urban Meyer says he'll never coach Notre Dame - ESPN Chicago)
Or maybe this quote from his Utah stint:
"I plan on staying at Utah for a long time"
Or the fact that he wrote about wanting to coach at ND it in his autobiography? Or the fact that he SAID emphatically that he covets the ND job just a year ago (December 2008) and has yet to say he misspoke?
Like he said 'I quit' then he said 'I don't quit' then he said 'I'll be on the FL sideline for fall of '10'
Ignorance? Please. The Irish didn't knock down his door because of the off field "incidents" and his approach to them. ND has a extremely high opinion of their program. I'll give you 26 reasons they wouldn't go that route.
After all, college football coaches NEVER say something then turn right around and do the opposite!
Ask yourself why is Meyer's buyout at a reported $500,000? Is it that his loyalty to FL precludes the need for any monetary penalty?
Maybe I'm wrong and the Irish didn't have the cash for a bidding war with FL after Weiss's reported $15 million dollar buyout. That could be. But ignorant...no.. I guess the name-calling ban must be tough on you.
You are wrong in thinking that making the jump from Florida to Notre Dame is exactly the same as making the jump from Utah to Florida or perhaps Cincinnati to Notre Dame.
The Irish didn't knock down Meyer's door because they're too arrogant to go crawling back to a coach who turned them down once already.
As far as the low buyout goes, Florida is in a position to attract a top flight coach and pay him the going rate without having to shell out millions to a guy who decided to jump ship. This will be the case long after Meyer is gone. A huge buyout shackles the university's ability to pay the next guy. Contract buyouts protect both parties, not just the coach.
Huge buyouts protect the coach in case he's fired, and low buyouts protect the school.Huge buyouts are a coach's addition to the process in case of firing. The school's side of it is an afterthought. Pretending UF has protected itself here is utterly absurd, especially after a contract redo.
