I have a question for some of the Political forum regulars....

it's unbelievable to me that you can agree that christians have a lunatic fringe, yet for muslims this is a key part of their religion. if so why aren't all muslims terrorists?

Show me a faith that all believers follow to the letter of the law. The phrase "nominal Christians" could easily be changed to "nominal Jews", "nominal Muslims", etc.

I think you are confusing me with somebody else. I never said that it's a key part of their religion.

Millions have died outside of the 200 year period in the name of Christianity. Just ask the fine residents of Salem.

Christianity mainly seperates itself with Jesus' thoughts on government in general. Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar etc..and it is grounded in kingdom theology. He did not set forth to build and exclusive earthly kingdom or theocracy. Whereas with Islam (conservative and moderate alike) that is the ultimate goal/general theme.

Other than the bolded, which I would like to see some proof still, I agree with everything you said.

:hi:

a Christian walks up to another individual and asks, "Do you believe Christ died for your sins and will you become a follower?" The individual replies "No", so the Christian says "Go to hell".

I see you've clearly never tried to get a Jehovah's Witness off your front porch

Please don't make me show you actual verses that Jesus specifically says to give. Your really fighting a losing battle on that one. Just so you know, tithing is considered to be gifts from the heart, not something that is arbitrarily done in obedience. That's the definition of tithing.

he absolutely does not say to give to the church. in fact he repeatably condems any tithing. he says give to the community and the poor. the church isn't the poor.

Just a few basic clarifications about Christianity for purposes of this thread.

Christianity in it's most basic form (simplified)....

1. God is a holy and perfect God.
2. God created man in his image, man sinned and lost all of the benefits of what he had pre-fall.
3. Because man sinned, he no longer could be in God's presence. This pre-dates Israel and the law. There is where damnation to hell enters the equation.
4. This is where sacrifice and the like enters into the OT. All of this was done through faith that one day an acceptable sacrifice would be made for sins.
5. Jesus was that acceptable sacrifice.
6. Faith in Jesus allows his righteousness to cover a believer's sins and allows him to be in God's presence.

All Christians are equally and rightfully deserving of hell as anyone else. The only difference in anyone is faith in Jesus Christ as the son of God.

so all these non violent people are chosing a religion that is based on violence? why?

Tithing was thrown out in the New Testament, though the mega churches of today will try to tell you otherwise.

but according to everyone on here's interpretation of Islam they offer you a choice too. The only difference is it's condemned if it happens on Earth but perfectly ok if enacted in the afterlife.

Assuming God is what I believe he is, that decision is better left for him, not me. Which is why it is his decision in the end, and not that of a human when it comes heaven or hell.

Ask them. If they say Islam is based on peace ask why is the founding attributed to so much blood and killing all in the teachings of the founder and by the founder himself.

i'll go ask the jews too. i'm sure they'll appreciate it.

Do you actually know what the churches do?? Missions, local rebuilding, homeless assistance, education, free counseling, overseas missions, and the list goes ON AND ON AND ON. You really need to go to church and ask what they do with those offerings for the less fortunate. It's all part of the community. In fact, our church alone has hosted over 700 people from out of state, fed them, and transported them to places where the Nashville floods took away everything from people.

No it wasn't, and Jesus said otherwise.....

Luke 6:38 (NIV)
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

congrats. and what percentage of your tithing, not targeting giving on a random sunday, goes to charity? 100%? i guess that gods love pays the minister, pays for his car, pays for upkeep of the church, etc etc. if you wanted to give to charity giving to your church is a pretty bad return on your investment. i'll give you the name of many a local food bank that will give 90% of your donation to food for the poor.

We should sticky this thread and rename it "The Volnation Guide to Irrationality, Hypocrisy and Utter Ridiculousness." Well played eric, you have given us all an invaluable tool.

And yes, that is exactly what she said.

Classic. Again, tell me where God commanded killing outside the specific command of that specific time. I know you're desperately scraping for traction here. There is a huge difference between commands to kill from that point of origin and beyond versus a specific command to 'smite' a specific nation at a specific time.

Again, you're veering off the discussion between Christianity and Islam trying to drag Jews into this. Stay focused on the topic at hand.

I fail to see where it says to give 10% of your income. It says to give freely. HUGE difference.
