I have a question for some of the Political forum regulars....

Do you NEED 100+ people by your side to worship your God? We can go at it all day in regards to this codependent business, but it's only going to further entrench us in our respective opinions.

so, you don't know what Jesus said about "corporate" worship?
I am not referring to what you do on your own.

I just know that he preached about applying biblical teachings and spreading the word of God throughout your everyday life.

Hard to do that when you're all cooped up in a building every Wednesday and Sunday.

Any church over say... 15,000 square feet?

That should narrow it down to a few hundred thousand.

still no answer huh.......what does square footage have to do with worship....what is the new testament definition of "the church"?

You should read back into the thread. We've already given examples of "Church in excess."

But, to answer your question so we can move on... what's your opinion on the Bellevue Baptist Church? You think they need those 300,000$ exterior stain glass fixtures? Imagine how many people in need could have been helped with that money.

How much do you think those 400 foot crosses cost to build? Or the bowling alley that was recently added to one of the wings of the church?

Bowling for Jesus? Yeah right.

100% true....that is not the topic/question that we are discussing....there is a reason for my question and you are missing it.....i will stop if you want

we were told in this thread that a big building was required to help people and so the congregation could be comfortable

Yeah, the only thing a homeless man gets for walking into a church like that is a free paddywagon ride to the county lockup.

I think that the body of believers, that worship at Bellvue Baptist, can do what ever they want with the money that they have been blessed with. I an not their judge and they will answer to God one day.
If this is what you got out of your "religious" experiences, I appologize for all Christians every where. We did not do a very good job with you.

most churches have items like that installed using the gifts of individuals from the congregation. not from the offering plate.

not by me....and that is not what i am asking him about....he clearly does not have the correct definition of "the church".

Been blessed with? I'm sorry, but that's crap.

bowling alleys and decadent stain glass fixtures is NOT how you spread the word of God.

Clean up a community... renovate historic houses and convert them into shelters. Invest money into drug and alcohol rehab. If I cared about spreading the gospel anymore, you bet your ass I'd use that money to show people that I spread love because of God.

Alas, I'm no longer a part of that crowd.

money is fungible. maybe that gift allowed them to be able to spend money elsewhere, but the fact remains it's laughable for eric to imply the money he gives to his church is all about charity.

And that prevents it from being wasteful and ridiculous?

Didn't Jesus preach against finer things and luxurious possessions?

once again, your Bible knowledge is showing....have a great life and once again, as a Christian, i am sorry

I'm pretty sure I do. Of course, with all organizations, there are exceptions. Why, this cute little church down the road from my house holds regular food drives, toy drives, and clothing drives. That's what it's all about, man. Don't give money, give things.

I don't get it with the majority of religious folks on this board who like to discuss these topics... most of the Christians I call my friends are incredibly devout, yet they don't attend church. They see it as a... well... machine.

Most charities have overhead. I think most people realize that there is overhead in the Church, but continue to give because they think it's worth it. It's a matter of opinion.

Of all things God blesses you with, I guarantee money is the very last of those things.

Money is evil, whether or not you're religious.

i have not called for a "paddywagon" in years....how about you Beech?

Most churches don't. There would be uproar... the one good thing I can say about all the churches I attended was that they always had a hot plate of food for anyone who couldn't afford it.
