I have a question for some of the Political forum regulars....

In those seven years, I went to 5 or 6 different churches. 3 different denominations. Parsonages are a load of crap. Tithe is anything but charitable. And it seemed like there were new renovations being done every week.

If I were still religious, I would just read the various versions of the bible, take my own notes, and stick to the core values. Congregations are kind of silly.

Well that's unfortunate.

Christianity has about double the number of followers that Islam does.

As of 2005, 2.1 billion belong to Christianity while 1.5 belong to Islam. However, the former includes Mormons, Roman Catholics, Quakers, Jehovah's Witnesses, SDA's, Anglican, and Pentecostal. Pardon me, but there's some bad blood between some of those sects.

So what you are saying is they should be viewed seperate because of they are not all the same.

dont forget Eastern Orthodox as there are about 300 million of them, which is very similar to the Catholic church

Did I say all Christian's were greedy? Of course not. Some of the greatest people I've had the privilege of knowing are Christians. The church, however, is a machine.

the truly selfless person is rare indeed. whether it be money, power, or influence.

he's not telling a story the koran is telling the story of mohammed. no where does mohammed say that after his death he commands all of his followerst o kill infidels. i defy you to find that text.

His teaching is the revelation from Allah that he gives to his followers. Are you telling me he was just a storyteller and nothing in that book is based on what to do after his death? Sorry Muslims. Muhammed was just a long winded storyteller. Nothing to believe in or follow. The words expired at his death...nevermind the book coming together AFTER his death.

Muhammed had his followers reciting these tenets. These were beliefs he was not only teaching but carrying out in his warfare.

That is EXACTLY what Jesus said.....those congregations that you attended taught you well.

Oh, and there isn't bad blood between different sects of Islam?

why is it all or nothing for you? either he's a killer or he isn't? either you have to follow everything he does or nothing? no shades of gray?

Wrong again there SKIPPY. Maybe you SHOULD pull out all those versions of the Bible and ACTUALLY read them.

I agree. And being a member of a church doesn't exclude you from that.

Of course not... it's the head honchos that you have to look out for, but that applies to any organization. This organization just happens to have billions of people wrapped around their fingers.

I learned principals from the Bible. I learned about church through research and personal experience. Clearly, we took what we experienced in different lights. I was a struggling believer, you find comfort in the congregation. More power to you.

I don't trust administrative folks regardless of what organization they're with.

Fact is, there's a crapload of money that ISN'T going to charity coming out of YOUR pockets.

and just what did you learn about how Jesus said we should worship him?

Do you NEED 100+ people by your side to worship your God? We can go at it all day in regards to this codependent business, but it's only going to further entrench us in our respective opinions.
